This has been around for a very long time but I have to admit I haven't paid much attention in some time. Amazing how auto racing has improved safety so much over the years but these guys still blast through these towns at speed, only inches away from the buildings.

RIP, Mike Hailwood (Mike the Bike)

If you are interested in racing, the IOM TT is one of the few remaining true road races like the Targa Florio or the Mille Miglia. No matter what form of racing you are interested in, you have to be filled with awe and admiration of what these guys do. Many still just do it because they love the thrill, not because of big sponsors and they race, starting 10 seconds apart around the 37 mile Mountain Course. The long races over six laps feature two pit stops for fuel and tires. Current lap average speed is over 130 mph and a mistake can very well be fatal. The TT has been run since 1907 and from 1911 on the mountain course. on Mad Sunday, the fans take to the circuit on their own bikes for a ride around. Results can be humorous. For any Motorsport fan, it has to be on the bucket list for events to attend.

I have seen other videos where at the summit of the mountain visibilty can get down to zero and these guys know that track so well that zero visibilty hardly slows them down at all. It is common for clouds to cover the mountain top.

Watched an on-bike video of Mike Hailwood riding back in the early seventies, he was narrating while riding, his voice was so calm it was scary. He was going past telephone poles that look like a picket fence and when he got to the zero visibilty area he calmy says "my big concern is striking a cow".

yes- the top bikes AVERAGE 130 mph. absolutely insane on that course. The racers have incredibly large cojones ..or small brains. I do hope to see this live once in my life, though.

did i mention my 650 Ninja is for sale?
