Ever wonder if Michael Schumacher has ever sneezed inside his helmet? Or any of the the other drivers for that matter. I did once and buddies, it was a long clean up afterwards. These are the stupid things i think about when I have far too much free time on my hands. Just thought I'd share this with you. Back to the serious posts......;)

Oh by the way Imperial, i know...... MS doesn't sneeze....... ever...

Interesting topic! I remember Martin Brundle talkiong about the braking power of modern F1 cars. He said that tears from your eyes would splat onto the inside of your visor when you brake hard! Maybe if you're going to sneeze in the helmet you need to do it when under heavy acceleration to try to prevent too much splatter.

Don't they all wear ballaclavas? So technically you don't mess up your helmet, but the head sock.

Tust me.....a lot worse can happen in your helmet than sneezing. I was giving someone a ride in my 355 Challenge at Watkins Glen a few years ago. It was about 98 degrees outside and lord knows what in side 120-130+ ? I always insist that any passenger wear full nomex when I give them a ride (I have a spare one).

We spent 15 laps chasing down an F40 LM. He finally motioned to me to pull in but I didn't get any further than the pitlane when he got sick.

To make matters worse it was my Eddie Irvine helmet (SA95 which could no longer be used for racing).

The sad part was....that my helmet didn't smell much worse after this incident (and being cleaned) then it did before.

Obviously we weren't going at speeds where you need to worry about things splattering you helmet at 6 g's but it wasn't pretty.

I guess while driving it might not happen because you are concentrating so hard. Just in general..

I think you don't have to unless you have facial hair, but most do. If you have a balaclava with a large opening like Senna, Ralf, Montoya, i would imagine it would still be a problem, lol

James Hunt actually vomited during a Grand Prix at least once. Back in the days of party all night then line up on the grid......just not the same any more is it?

Partying aside, supposedly Hunt's nerves were what made him vomit before races.

I know what you're talking about! Once I warm up my tires and AP brakes, when I brake hard coming into a turn, sometimes I can't see much because tears from my eyes get pulled out of my head and I need to slow down until my vision is restored.

You would have to try to time the sneeze just right in a F1 car at speed. He probably covers something like 3 football fields while his eyes are closed. What if he had 2 or 3 back to back? He could kill someone

Well, it's a lot easier farting then sneezing at 200mph. At least you can keep your eyes open.
