This is all purely hypothetical. Well, obviously, since I have no affiliation or power within Formula 1. But thinking about Monza and the type of course it once was before the cars became too fast...It used to have some of the most significant corners in F1 which today are recognizable by name but virtually irrelevant in stature. Curva Grande, Lesmos 1 & 2, Parabolica. So, let's say you were allowed to remove one of the current chicanes--completely straighten it back out to its original shape--which would it be? I'm leaning towards the third, since it would open up a nice run down the back straight and towards Parabolica, creating a better, more challenging passing scenario. Chicane #1 would be tempting to eliminate, but since Grande is no longer a mechanical grip challenge, the racing wouldn't be enhanced too much.

    Thoughts?

I'm really not a big fan of chicanes in general (though I do see the significance in their safety role) but I've never really liked the 2nd chicane where Kimi crashed in practice last year, most people just end up cutting it and there really isn't enough runoff (I believe Webber had a crash there last year). I do like the idea of eliminating the third chicane though so that their is a larger chance to outbreak your opponent going into the parabolica.

I would keep the first chicane as it's right next to the campsite. The feeling when you are woken up in your tent by the sound of free practice and the F1 cars are going down through the gears at the chicane is great. Puts a smile on your face no matter how bad your hangover is! The sound is a bang-bang-bang as they go down the gears and it thumps in your chest. Magic!

Agree, if 1 chicane had to go, its has to be Variante Ascari (3rd one), But how about moving Variante Della Roggia (2nd one) as well... Got to keep Retifilio for over taking !

While we are at this, can we bring back the old Hokkenheim too :)

That's a camping trip I'll have to take some day--the closest I came was at the first USGP when we rented RVs and camped across the street from the Start/Finish.

Been there a lot--absolutely the best! Indy is the only place I "camped" (should have clarified that) but I'm way overdue to return to Montreal. Haven't been up there in 4 years! My first Montreal GP was in '86 and then went almost every year until '04
