I'm an amateur - not planning to spend a lot of time becomming a professional photographer - just want a camera that takes super clear pictures that I can use for runs, etc.

The PowerShot A610 seems like a good one. Thoughts?

    Canon makes some great cameras.

The A610 has the movable LCD that is very helpful in getting the shot.

I prefer the G series though. If your budget allows, you might want to check out the G6.

Peter, the review on the G6 seems nice. Budget is not an issue, but what about it do you think would be more helpful on the G6 for an amateur photographer like me versus the A610. 5.0MP seems more than enough resolution for what I need, and I'm sure even the A610 has features that I will need to grow into.

    Thanks.

You might also want to think about the size difference between the G6 and A610. If "bulkiness" (for lack of a better word, because the G6 is hardly a whale) will make a difference in your decision to carry the camera and take pictures, the A610 may be the better choice. It is the easier camera to just put in your pocket and take with you.

Good point. While you can't drop the A610 in your pocket, it appears to be less bulky than the G6, which is a consideration.

    Vic,
We bought the A520 last month--our first digital. It offered more than we realized, but certainly less than A610.
If you are an amateur, you cannot go wrong with the A610. But you may be over-buying for your needs.
    BTW, :)
You posted the 'review' link to find out if anyone would spot the Ferrari (Camera Operation/Playback Mode), right?

After looking at a lot of digital SLRs on the market, I bought a Nikon D70s. While some other companies 'claim' their D-SLRs have more megapixels, photos taken with the Nikon just look clearer/better IMHO.

Thank you for all the great input. Will review the other camera's noted but am leaning towards the A610 for now given Canon's rep, the image quality I've seen of this camera and the positive reviews I've read of it.

    Best.
