So Im looking to get a new car soon and I think Ive settled on a 2008-2010 (it was updated in 08 and I think the last year GM honors warrantys on them is 2010) Saab 9-3; hopefully an Aero version but I dont see many of those for sale. They seem to be a pretty good value for the money. Just wondering if any of guys on here have owned one, have any opinions on them, or can tell me a good Saab forum to check out. Thanks!

a family friend has an aero, and has had some small warranty issues (electrics) ....unique cars to be sure

PS wendys shouldn't have changed thier french fries and burgers, now they aren't so good anymore IMO :(

'89-'91 SPG ["Aero" and "Turbo 16S" outside US] is pretty studly, and mark the time when SAAB figured out how to make a gasket. '90 had the Turbocharger with the least lag, didn't it?

    Mmmmmmm - Frosty . . .

My cousin has the one I think you're considering. She rear-ended someone (in 2011), and spent months trying to get body panels for the repair. I don't know how it was resolved, but parts from a bankrupt car company may not be readily available.

Thats really my main concern; avaliablity of spare parts and how much repairs will cost.

I have a 9-3 2.0T and adore the car. The 08/09 Aeros are the Saabists pick of the litter due to the highest power output ever offered for the 9-3. They're a hoot if you go with XWD but torque steer kings otherwise. Mine has been Corolla reliable outside of a few foibles. The headlight wires rust out necessitating a cheap fix with replacement kits. The shifter knob has come off repeatedly -after being 'repaired' several times by the former dealer -super annoying- , and the front coil springs can crack (replaced under a well known GM warranty).
Saabs are rock solid, extremely comfortable highway cruisers and fun to drive however you'll find the ride/handling compromise isn't as fluid or composed as similar vintage Audis or BMWs. Also the interiors are a notch below the Germans and the plastics can become squeaky.

The Aero 6s are relatively rare Q-ships. Even if they weren't a bargain it would be difficult to find a better dd as unique and entertaining. Good luck !

Your main concern should not really be if you can get spare parts and how much it will cost to fix.
Your main concern should be when the payments are done, how many potential buyers will show up at your hose wanting to buy it from you.

Strange, my mom has one, hit a large deer, and the shop had no issues finding panels

My family has had several, some good some not as good.

1995 900 turbo 3 door- bullet proof, no issues aside from an unhooked clutch cable. I miss this car every day. Put 80k miles on it before I sold it

1999 9-5 sedan 2.3 turbo. Was one of the first 9-5's in the US and was great when working but had needed a new engine due to sludging 800 miles out if warranty. Took Saab 5 years to admit the issue and reimburse he cost. Put 70k miles in it multiple turbos, a new engine lots if headaches

2003 9-5 arc wagon. Great looking an driving car but the turbo blew out twice in 40k miles of driving. Great gas mileage as well.

Tough to find more car for the money. I know saabists detest the 9-2x but the aero version is a wrx with heated seats!

    It does...huh...?

But I had a '79 Turbo, black with the Aztec wheels..cool looking car but real unreliable, water pump issues and a heater control valve that was the mofo from hell to get fixed..many more. Loved it when it ran well but that wasn't lots.
And I traded that in for an '86 9000T,the first year of a new model..bad move. Very very unreliable as something bad seemed to be broken constantly,a/c issues, cooling issues, electrical issues, tranny, shifter, belts, etc. But again when, when,it was working well it was a very nice drive.
Let it go in '91 for an Explorer.
I seemed to be telling my Saab stories all the time.
    Cheers,
    RE

I've had plenty of Saabs over the years. Unique cars. Some require a little patience :)
One bad thing is most of them handle pretty poorly... I still love them though, sad to see them gone
