Again, I think comparing the 20-year old Ferrari to the 6-month old Chevy is both very telling and also a waste of time.

Old cars are old. You either want them for all their intangibles, or you don't, and performance seems to be your foremost criterion. I think the fairer comparison, as posted above, would be to an F430. If you can't swing an F430 right now, then the Corvette is the way to go.

Bullfighter, there is a reason I like you so much, and it basically comes out in the words from your response here. I always saw myself as an effective communicator, but you my friend have raised the bar for me. :D I will work on it in the upcoming years. Perhaps I should start with "less is more"?

Buy a 328 then install a supercharger, lower it, change the brakes and bigger wheels.

Keep the Z06 and buy a 308 that way you get both experiences. I went from mopar muscle cars to ferraris and I do miss some of the abuse I could dish out, the drag races, the burnouts - mmmmm burning rubber and pistol grip shifters. I miss that and I wish I had both now. Ill be selling my 308, adding a muscle car and keeping the boxer so I have cars at both ends of the spectrum to fill that void when I need to.

Just curious, how often do 348's pop gearboxes? I had the impression they were fragile.

Yes if left factory....no if the stake rings are torqued, glued, staked billybob style. Many years racing never popped one. Many gearboxes rebuilt for others no one has broken one.
