I just drove a Mini Cooper S with the John Cooper Works package. I couldn't stop grinning! What a cool car! I'm thinking of getting one, what do you guys think? Anyone have one? With 210hp, can it be modded easily for more?

I have a Cooper S without the JCW package. Tons of fun and a huge amount of aftermarket mods for the cars. Pully, coilovers, lightened crank pullies, intercoolers, big brakes, exhaust, etc. If you highly modded the car, you can probably get about 250hp. Check out www.northamericanmotoring.com they are fanatical about MINIs.

Take it up to some of the canyons and you will have a blast chasing down the big exotic cars.

I have a 2003 Cooper S, without the JCW. I couldn't bring myself to spend more for it. I went the aftermarket route, and while I don't have the warranty (it actually just expired at 36000), it has served me well. All the aftermarket bits I added are similar to what you would get with a JCW kit. Reduction s/c pulley, Powerchips ECU bump, free-er flowing exhaust, better spark plugs, air intake. I think I spent ~$1500, compared to what the JCW is with installation ($5000+)! So if you want that warranty for those first three years, there's no choice but the JCW. I spent the extra I saved from not buying the JCW to upgrading my sway bars, brakes, and wheels. Definitely a plus of not going JCW.

There's also a twin charger aftermarket setup which as a turbo and a supercharger! Lots of details on NAM and MINI2.

Save the extra money for a real RWD sports car down the road.

You'll have just as much fun with a non-JCW MCS assuming you skip the heavy wheels in the so-called sports package! :)

I have a real RWD sporst car (Radical SR3), and have had 328, 348, 360(short time), all manner of 911 since '80, Viper ACR, a few Alfas. Also have the american muscle (GT350), the cruiser ('56 Corvette) as well as the SUV (Cayenne).

I drove the MCS and came out of it with a big grin, you're right, the wheels are going to be the first that go, I was just wondering if anyone on this forum had some real world experience with the car that they can share.

The guys at NAM have been great with info. If I can find the one that grabs me, I'll buy it and share with everyone here.

Mini cooper S here....absolute blast, sport package and added limited slip diff. Taken car on track at willow springs, and it was more fun than my Stradale (no but hole pucker factor with the mini). Absolute Go-kart type handling, 10k miles not a single problem.

I am cleaning out the garage, and I found an unopened H&R Coilover kit still in the original shipping box. Purchased it for my 2002 Cooper S but sold the car before I even got around to installing these. If you or anyone you know is looking for a deal on Coilovers, drop me a line.

It is the Street coilovers. Retail around $1300.

I'd go for the cooper S and skip the JCW package. I think its over priced.

That said if money's no object...then go for it.

    Great little car.

My dad has a MCS with the JCW. He loves it, as do I. Very nippy little car.

The really fast car he drives is his Evo 7 GTA, but the Mini is just more fun at legal speeds.

Send TheCarcierge (Scottie) a PM. He has had a JCW for about 2 years now, and really likes it. He has some mods on his and knows all about them.
Great car, lots of the local Fchatters have Coopers.

Find yourself a 2006 Mini GP. The GP is set up for racing providing 214 horsepower at 7100 rpm and 184 pound-feet of torque at 4600 rpm, leading to a 0-60-in the low 6s and a 140 mph top speed. The 2 seater GP has ride and handling upgrades as well. If nothing else sells you on it, just look at the overflowing cuteness.
