My first car was a 90 VW Corrado G60. If any of you guys know that car it requires alot of maintenance as well, so I'm pretty used to it. I am considering a 340 since fits my price range. What are the insurance costs, and registration fees that I should be aware of before buying one. I currently own a Jeep and would consider this car as my weekend driving machine.

Don't know how many 340's you'll find for sale but my guess is that you'll have better luck looking for 348's

Not a particularly good project for the inexperienced.

Regarding 348's: buy the latest (newest car) with the best maintenance history that you can afford (buy a car that has been used regulary recently). Budget $3-4k per year for maintenance (you may average less, but be prepared).

    Good Luck,

    Art S.

Insurance and registration are surprisingly inexpensive on these cars. Of course, insurance will vary depending on your zip code in LA, your deductible, liability coverage amounts, your age, driving record, etc. etc. and registration will be a function of the depreciated value of the car as set forth by the DMV. Lots of variables, but figure roughly $1.5k/yr on your insurance and reg. Buy the best car that you can find that has had a recent major service (timing belts, tensioner bearings, water pump, etc.) - or budget around $5k - 7k to get that done after purchase. Spend the money to get a PPI (pre-purchase inspection) done by reputable dealer or independent ($400 - $500). And check this site out - tons of great info on here to prepare you to search, inspect, purchase, drive and maintain your 348.
