yes because they have four seats i think a 1988 model as i have been told they are easier to look after mechanicaly, one with good history and must have been serviced correctly ,RED(of course) with light tan interior(beige) are they a good car ? does the aircon work ok do they over heat? whatelse should i look for in these cars is there one year that is better than otheres
You could spend anywhere between ~18k for a scruffy Mond 8 to maybe ~$100k for a Mond T cab in mint shape.... Mond QV or 3.2 are quite cost effective to run and buy.
My first ferrari was a Mondial 8. I would go for the later cars, preferably a T. The early cars had poor power, dodgy electronics, window winders etc. AC-forget it on the earlier cars-a fan would be better!! Still, they are a fun car and under-rated generally. I recall driving a Carrera 2 (1991?) back to back at Barbagallo, and apart from the power (-50hp) and gearing, the Mondial was as good a ride as the Porsche at the time. Good luck
auction, if ones comes up, trade wholesale. Curiously, I have only worked on one Mondial since I've been in Oz. Don't know if that means anything, but did loads in UK.
They were never terribly popular (who wants to be a bus driver) when new. I guess the few that were sold are quietly turning to dust in garages around Australia. If it were me, I would buy an old commodore for family duties and a 308 for fun.
Don't know about Bus... the Mond Chassis is actually not bad. But the driving position is WAYYYY too far forward, and the door is too far back behind you. More like driving a ute.
It is the large horizontal steering wheel and passenger seats that give rise to the "bus driver" analogy. I drove a 2 valve Mondial when they were new and honestly, it was bloody awful.
No argument there. I drove a 3.2 cab in the rain once..... It was like sitting in a shower with your clothes on.
comodore for family duties that sound good (not) and what great fun it would be to be driving away in a 308 looking out the rear vision mirror and seeing my two young sons and my wife standing in the driveway waving me good bye that sounds like great fun ? what planet are you from or would you rather be with your car than your family? come on get a life
I'd go for a Mondial T if budget allows. NOT a cab though. Mond T is a better car than a 348. Drives nicer (better wheelbase and track and adaptive shocks), has power steering, build quality is generally not embarrasing to show off etc... Only disadvantage of Mond T is major belt service costs ~3 times a QV/3.2. Major advantage is tyre choice and availability (older ones have Metric tyres), performance, quality etc
If you want to hang around here, I would advise you to adjust your attitude, FAST. Responding in the way you have to one of the most generous and respected people on this board in such a fashion will NOT win you any friends here, I can assure you. You want to start a flame war, go right ahead: I love them. You get a life, and get a clue while you're at it, newbie.
*interlock fingers together and swirl hands in a circular fashion while doing a hip gyro* GO ROMAN GO ROMAN GO ROMAN GO ROMAN GO ROMAN GO ROMAN,
The 2 valve injected 308 isn't that much faster. If you are going to use it as a GT car (2-3 hour trips) and you're tall and a bit fat (like me), the Mondial is better than a 308 of the same vintage. Image Unavailable, Please Login
after the whupping I gave you at the go-karts, you're safe from any more ridicule from me for the time being.....
Stephen: No, there wasn't aggression as such, but there was sarcasm and rudeness. If I ask for advice/opinions (on a new board, amongst strangers I might add), and someone gives me their honest opinion, and I do not necessarily agree, I would respond with a 'thanks, but not what I'm after'. His response to Scott was at the very least impolite, and I simply offered an opinion of my own. I stand by my response. If you think I was OTT, feel free to edit my post. I don't care, and there'd be no hard feelings if you chose to do so. Phil: That whipping, did it occur in the first session when I posted the fastest lap time at a track I'd not seen before, in the pouring rain, or was it in the second session when I came first, and you pipped my fastest lap time by 1/100th of a second? Speaking of go-karts, let me know when you're going again.
Many years ago I had a '87 Mondial QV 3.2 - rosso with tan. Definetely feels like a bus, especially when you try to go around corners. First thing you have to do is to change the steering wheel to something MUCH smaller. That thing is ridiculous. Your back will get sore on long drives. Clutch isn't the lightest. It was very reliable - never had any issues with it and the gear change was a treat like in any 'rrari.
