I bought both a 365 and a 412 last year. As the 365 was fairly cheap, I bought it sight unseen apart from a ppi and assumed that I might be in over my head. The 412 was a local billionaire's car and needed some work but was plainly a known mechanical quantity as my mechanic (Norwoods) had been servicing it from day one. I've now dealt with all of the stuff that both needed. Mostly cosmetics and fluids on the 412. Suspension, tires, brake lines and other somewhat more expensive stuff on the 365. I could now happily keep either but I have four F cars now and these are hard to justify as a pair. The 412 seems bulletproof, starts effortlessly and has real a/c that works even here in Texas. I can tell/sense that the 365 will be more finicky with carbs and all. But the sound of that thing and the fact that it's a stick (whereas the 412 is an auto) really makes me lean toward keeping it. So, I welcome thoughts about whether the market is poised to take off on one of these or is there something else I should be thinking about to avoid the regret that might come later from letting one go.

Depends on what you want to do with them.

You're right about the 412. Real a/c is a plus. Nice, comfy, and elegant. If you want a driver, this is your car.

However from a collectible stand point think about this, there are 101 412's in the US. 36 of them are 5-speeds.
    There are 27 365GT4 2+2's.

    Need I say more?

Are you sure these are realistic figures, or are they the ones you were able to track down..?
In any case, the sheer production numbers favour the 365 GT4 at 524 against over 1800 for the 412.
And if my priority was to have a nice, comfy car with a good working AC, I'd probably go for anything BUT a Ferrari...

Yes, and yes. There are quite a few of us who are tracking these and all of our numbers are VERY close.
Those of you living in europe forget that it isn't that hard to get a terrorist into our country but you can forget about trying to get one of those awful, polluting, unsafe european cars in. The number of Boxer/365/400/400i/412's here is really low.

    <laughing> Isn't that the truth

Wow. I wasn't aware of those numbers. I agree that the 412 is a bit less raw (a lot) than a 328 etc... But big and comfy doesn't mean slow. If you let those cars warm up and then run them, they're damn fast. And, if you want to shift, they'll run to sixty under seven seconds. That said, I think I'm convinced that this is the one to let go of.
