Interesting theory, never thought about it. I grew up playing with 1/43 scaled toys. As an adult I discovered the Bburago 1/18 Ferraris a friend of mine had on display in his living room. Right then and there I realized that these are objects of art and I started my collection. And those were only Bburago. Today we're a lot further from that.

GTE: We have to agree to disagree. I find that 1/43 F40 Competizione (whatever the hell that is, certainly not something ever existed) lacking so many details compared to my 1/18 F40 LM Pilot that I could go on forever. You see it the other way round, so there is simply no middle ground.

I am bored with this 1:43 vs 1:18 debate already. Collect what ever scale you are interested in. Its a free country.

sorry to hear you are selling your collection. i used to be an avid collector of models, but my fervor has dropped off to almost nothing over past couple of years. guess i got enough after about 400! anyway, i'm interested in your 275 gtb/4 kit. let me know if you're still selling it.

I have several dozen Corvette models including a few metal die cast. And a few Ferraris. But back during the 90s, it seemed that every time I went to the store, there was yet another version of another car to be purchased. The overall retro collectable craze was causing manufactureres to manufacture "collectables" that weren't really collectible. Older models that are no longer available are what I call "collectable". They are rare. You can't run down to Wal-Mart and buy them. They NEVER were manufactured to be "collectables". They were manufactured to be model cars. They're like baseball cards. Any baseball card made before 25 years ago was printed to be a BASEBALL CARD. NOT a collectable. When people REALLY started collecting the cards about 20 years ago, suddenly the manufacturers started printing "collectables". And therefore, their REAL collectability takes a dive. They become like Beanie Babies.

Except that collecting beanie babies is totally gay, and collecting model cars is cool.

My mom bought beanie babies for me (for her really) when I was little (up until 4th-5th grade) we still have them but they are in a closet :)

I don't have many models (but have a nice book/dvd collection which includes many car related ones) as for models I have two porsches and a cadillac (old 50s models with the wings) haven;t bought one in years. Want to though.

Sorry, can't really agree... :) I never saw a 1/18 as a toy actually... I never saw a kid play with these either?
Smaller cars suit a child's hand much better ;)
The first collection cars kids would like to grab are the small ones here :D
But like has been said before, it all depends on personal intrests ;)
They both have + and -

    Aaron,
    I've been there....
    I've got rid of it....
I thought I had the good reasons to go through with it....
I now know I shouldn't have done it...
I did sell out whole of my collection of model cars ( about 200 1/43s), tons of books and magazines, memorabilia, even half an interiour of a 355 I had laying around. Now I could shoot myself, trow myself of a cliff, kick myself (hope you get the picture by now :) ), I did had many good reasons to do it, but I forgot the many even better not to. I had a huge collection of Ferrari-stuff, now I only have got a huge recollection of it. No fun, I assure..
    Think well before acting.

Just wanted to let everyone know who has expressed interest in various models -- I will be out of town starting tomorrow (Wednesday) through Sunday afternoon. I won't be able to check FChat until I get back, but don't hesitate to PM/email me while I'm gone with questions, updates, etc., and I'll get back to everybody on Sunday evening. Thanks so much!

I've fallen a couple PM's behind on responding. Please accept my apologies if I haven't gotten back to you yet. As PM's come in, I add your name and the models you're interested in to an Excel spreadsheet. I'll do my best to follow up with those who I've not yet responded to ASAP.

I'm more than happy to email pictures of any model I've got. Just PM me your email address and the *specific* model you would like pictures of. It's no problem to snap a couple of pics, but I don't already have a photo log of every model I've got.

    Thanks so much!

    Aaron
