    Hello all,

I have a 1999 Viper GTS (supercharged w/700 hp) that I have recently been thinking of trading for a 360 Modena.
Always loved the lines, but have never driven one. Any advice or suggestions ? (besides actually driving one...lol)

    Thanks

They are very, very different machines. Newer Ferraris do have substantial torque, but not like those monster V10s. It will handle much neater though. What did you do with a 700hp Viper? Track? Advice will depend on what you want a F360 for.

If you fill out your profile you will increase the chances of getting responses from Fcar owners in your area. Also look at the regional/country threads. Get to know the owners and swap driving each others cars(with each owner in the passenger seat). Good luck with your search.

Whats the GTS like for mid-long range trips?

Say somehting like a 5-6 hrs one way, week long stay and back...

Is the car cool, comfortable, useable, etc for such a trip or is it too harsh for somehting like that?

To answer some of the questions, I'm in the SW Florida area and I know there is a active Fcar club in Naples I just don't know anyone or anything about them. Driving a 700 hp Viper can be like being launched from a catapult, it is a high 10 sec quarter car. It's fine on long trips except there is no cruise, cupholders or any other creature comforts. I don't track, but do take some trips that include some 'spirited driving'. My daily driver is a tiptronic Pcar cabriolet, and I find myself enjoying that car more for its refinement even though its not even close in hp. Which brings me back to a 360, it seems to be much more refined but offers performance and styling that are still very desireable. Any honest drawbacks on a 360 from a owners point of view would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

As someone indicated previously you can't even begin to compare the two cars. The "experience" is night and day. I'm not just referring to to outright performance or the nuts and bolts side of the equation.

My suggestion (since you don't know anyone with a 360) is for you to try to find a dealer nearby that has one for sale. If you arrive in either your P car or the Viper you should be able to take one for a test drive. After your test drive ... let us know what you think. :)

As the current owner of both (2000 360 and a 1995 900 hp RT/10) I get to compare the two all of the time. They are COMPLETELY different cars, granted the 95 RT and a 99 GTS aren't quite the same. The Viper is loud, obnoxious it rattles it heats up the cabin (even with the top and windows off) it's fast, very fast and it does handle well. The 360 on the other hand is smoother and more refined the a/c and stereo work the car is fast and handles VERY well. They both have great lines and a great gawk factor. They are both great cars........... just different.

P.S. Viper tax is about a third of what Ferrari tax is!

The 360 will feel very slow off the line compared to the Viper... but that isn't what Ferrari's are built for.

However, in the 360 when you are in a tight turn at speed feeling so completely connected to every bit of the suspension that you can feel the grip of each tire to the road... then come out of it punching the throttle with the RPM's all wound up and the exhaust wailing, you'll get it. Not to mention being surrounded by the plush hand-stitched Italian interior instead of the cheap Dodge pickup truck plastic dash will make you forget about wanting to drag race kids at every red light, and just enjoy the experience of your ride. :)

Thanks for all the replys, I'm looking around the local dealers to see who may have a 360 in stock. I know you can't compare these two, they are I'm sure very different experiences. Funny thing is when I drive the Viper, no one will even come up even at a stoplight, but everyone wants a piece of a Pcar. After all is said and done, I've owned a relatively rare car (barely 10K total production since 1992) but am looking for a new & different experience with a great following.

Dusky, you are exactly the kind of person I was hoping to hear from. Which one has given you the most enjoyment overall...not necessarily performance wise but, an overall, which keys do you look for first thing?? You're right about the loudness (lol), but the a/c in mine is antarctic & I have zero rattles. Is the Ferrari tax that bad compared to Viper tax ?

As far as "overall" enjoyment goes I gotta go with the Ferrari. The mystique alone makes you grab the keys first.
The Ferrari tax is much worse than than a Viper, Danial at Ricambi does a good job trying to keep them low but they are still pretty silly. A rubber trans mount shouldn't cost $144!
I get allot of enjoyment out all of my cars, as they each bring a different driving experience. The Viper has that brute force that kinda throws you back to the 60's and 70's. So it is had to deny the driving excitement that brings. If you make across the ally let me know we'll go for a spin.
You think a Ferrari gets attention? Try driving a Isetta!

In my opinion, it's always more fun to drive a car like the 360 that wants you to wind out each gear and downshift to get the most from it than a car like the Viper (especially a S/Ced one) that you can stay in a single gear all day in.

This doesn't mean the Ferrari is slow. It's not...well, I suppose that's relative.
