    Really need some help here. I've tried a few things, but have not been successful. I have the ThinkPoint virus, and can't remove it. I can't access my main computer account (I'm running Vista). Actually, my account will open, but instead of seeing my desktop, I get a screen prompting me to do a safe startup (see attached image).

    Everything I have read has to do with removing it on the actual account that it has infected (in this case, my main one), but I haven't found anything about removing it from the main one by using another account on the computer. The account I'm using right now has Administrator privileges.

    Ouch. Reformat time sounds like to me... full restore. FOLLOWED by GOOD
    VIRUS SOFTWARE - AVG (free), Norton (invasive), McAfee, etc. but SOMETHING.

    Most unfortunate - I've been reading about this one since you posted - NASTY.

    Be prepared for a lot of "you should have bought a Mac" responses... it's only a matter of time
    and Mac will be a major target too. I run Mac, PC, and Linux.... ALL are vulnerable. But
    Windows is the biggest target so is hit far more often.

    That's great! So NOW do that major DATA BACKUP onto an external drive, after
    fully scanning your computer with AVG or other virus software.

    I'm assuming. Everything is working fine.

    I've thought of doing that. I have some stuff on a few USB sticks (8, 4 , and 8 gigs), but looks like I need something bigger.

    Just pick up a 1/2 TB "external mini hard drive" - Seagate or whatever major brand.
    Almost ALL of them now come with backup software built it that will auto-launch.

    I keep my main Vista box backed up with a Seagate 2.0 TB external just using the
    internal BU software it came with. Works great and is automatic.
