On saturday, I decide to take Bella (2007 F430 F1 with 6400 miles) out for a little shopping trip. She had been on the battery trickler for 2.5 weeks and it was 60 degrees outside. Let her get all nice and warmed up first, then drove about 50 miles to Nordys. No problems. Had been having some ' skipping' of the clutch when going from 2-3 gear for the past 2 months or so. None of that today. Took her up to 100mph a few times in 6th, nothing crazy.
About 15 miles from home, I had been in 5th and wanted to cruise in 6th. Clicked the F1, and nothing happened. WTF. Turned down the music ( was listening to Lenny Kravitz " are you gonna go my way") and tried again. Nothing. OK, not good. Look around and realize that Im not in the best part of town and I'M RUNNING OUT OF GAS. Ferrari dealer is about 10 minutes away. Car seems to like 5th gear. What do I do? Stop and calll roadside assist, or 'Damn the torpedos, FULL STEAM AHEAD!'. Well, being a blackjack player, I hit the soft 17 and went for the dealership. Got to the exit, had to stop at the light. Car downshifted itself not well. Very jerky.
Now in 1st and when I tried to shift to 2nd, the car slowed down at first, and jumped in to second violently and lurched forward. Lots of traffic around me, I'm keeping calm ( well, I did need to change my undies later, but I digress). Car makes it to the dealership at 430pm ( Foriegn Cars Italia).
Get the call Tuesday from them and they say the clutch looks fine and the actuator screws were loose and they think its an easy fix. Keep in mind that my warranty ends in 2 weeks and I at first wasn't going to drive the car, but, said what the hell.
Well, get another call today and they say ' we have no idea whats wrong! the screws have been tightened and the car is still having trouble shifting'. Worse, the computer isn't showing any fault codes and we have never seen this before. They sent the data to ferrari and they are waiting for a response! Hmmmm...OK...
Has anyone else dealt with a similar issue?

Maybe. Keep me informed. I consulted with an attorney today who is handling a very similar case that is coming to a head.

Who knows? Might become a twofer.

So is the car I speak of. 56 days in the shop, almost everything replaced, some more than once. Direct factory involvement in the repairs and it is no closer to being fixed now than at the beginning.

My Maserati did something very similar. They replaced the F1 pump and it never happened again.

I'm sure they'll figure it out. You're lucky it happened now and not 2 weeks from now.

Exact same thing happened to me. They said the screws were loose. But after less than 1000 miles it came back. Of course by the time it came back it was out of warranty. I have to replace the actuator pump at about $4K so make sure you get it really fixed under warranty. If I remember right if this doesn't fix it the next thing that gets replaced is the actuator itself another 5 grand. Stay on it and good luck. Oh, I have a 430 with 6700 miles on it.

Thanks to all for the comments. Still nothing from FCI service about what the plan is. Another question, lets say they come up with a fix, car works for a while, then same problems happens again this time after the warranty has expired?
This board continues to be a wealth of information!

You can bet your bottom dollar that if you experience a failure after your warranty expires, your deallership will initially at least tell you that the failure was caused by a related but different part, hence you are responsbile for the repair.

The final resolution will ultimately depend on the relationship you have with the dealership. If you are a long time customer, and especially if they see you being a future buyer of another car, they may give you a break.

    My 2 cents.

as a lawyer id advise u to get express preferably written confirmation from fci that the warranty is extended in respect of the items fixed for say a year? alternatively u may want to buy the powercube extended warranty now if possible- seems like a good idea if the risk of recurrence is high

Thanks Casey for the reply. I have dealt with the FCI Ferrari service dept. in the past and have always been given excellent service from everyone ( this also includes the Porsche section of FCI as well). I know that they want to fix my car right the first time and get it back to me as soon as possible. Also, when I dropped my car off on Saturday, a FCI sales person gave me a ride home eventhough I didn't buy my car at FCI and the service dept. was closed. I have no worries that the current issue will be resolved. I just miss looking at my baby in the garage ( separation anxiety I guess).

Well, first I want to thank FCI for all of their help with my situation. Long story short, FNA is NOT going to repair my car under warranty! They claim that excessive clutch heat is what caused my problem and that its not a warranty issue (2007 f430, f1, 6500mi). I bought the car used and the previous owner lived in NYC. So, its going to cost me about $6000 for a new clutch and throw out bearing. My warranty ends on 2/1 and I can purchase another year for $6700 ( yeah right, screw me once..you get the idea).

I'm still quite pissed and I do not blamed FCI. BTW, I haven't tracked the car or driven it like an idiot.

Any info from folks on how a clutch overheats and best ways to prevent it!

    Thanks

    J
