I have a question for all our Mondial owners. In this heat we are having in the UK it is obviously affecting the oil pressure and temperatures on our cars. My mates Mondial is fine on start up, the usual good oil pressure, "cold oil" When up to normal running temp the oil pressure drops on the gauge and the oil temp is about three quarters up the gauge. I know this is normal with all cars but how far should the oil pressure go down and how far up should the temp go before we should be worried on this model. My 308 does the same as all cars but not to the extreme of the Mondial Dials. I must also add the oil and filter have been changed a week ago. I will be checking it again tonight, but before I start looking, Your comments would be greatly appreciated. Oh I must add I think its an 89 model Many Thanks Mark
Mark in normal cases oil preasure average about 10 lbs. for every 1000 rpm. Also I think the type of oil you use (weight and grade) makes a different. Mike
Of course, when applying Smokey Yunick's rule for a small block Chevy race engine to a Ferrari, one should also take into consideration the 308 owner's guide statement that "When the temperature is between 212F. (sic) and the engine revs are approximately 6000 RPM the oil pressure should not be below 78 lb/sq in or over 92.5 lb/sq in. If, with the engine running at the same speed and temprature, the pressure is less than 64 lb/sq.in. the engine revs should be properly reduced and the reason for the low oil pressure established." (Those numbers are 100degC, 5.5 kg/cm^2, 6.5 kg/cm^2 and 4.5 kg/cm^2 respectively) 1978 308 Owners Manual page 60. It's amazing how one piece of information, when stated by a self-styled expert, can be so misapplied over and over again. And Smokey Yunick was a bona fide expert.
Thanks for the reply chap's I will have a look tonight, I am sure its ok. These things don't just go on a car over night with under 40k on the clock (full history) it usually drops off over a period of time as the engine and oil pump become worn. Its probably a wire problem, I hear they are prone to that. Regards Mark...
Hi Mark When hot my 308 used to go to near zero, I changed the oil to to that expensive Helix stuff now it drops to about a 1/4 of the way down. Another check could be the sender unit, that increased the pressure by about 30%! When very very hot it still goes down worryingly low at idle, but touch the gas and it comes up half way - suits me! Cheers Nick
It was great meeting you as well!.. At the risk of being blasted for being off topic, where do we go with the FChat display for next years rotary car show?
Hi Nick, I will let you know closer to the time, I will make contact with most that were at the show on Sunday. I may also see if It's possible to post it on Fchat about two months out. This could be big!! Massive!!! A take over!!!! Mark....
