Well, i have been trying to put some miles on her and the other day i spooted this. It's really tuct in there. The rubber is soft and it doesn't look like a regular hose. Do you think i need to remove the top cover to get to it? Any thoughts on how to do it. Thanks for any info.

Sure looks like it's a coolant line that's well on the way to failure.
Also looks like the plenum's going to have to come off to change it.

Can't get to the Ferrari.uk site to see where it goes, but impression is you're going to have to pull the air intake plenum to change it.

I was hoping i can get a few more runs but i guess i'll be pushing my luck. I 'm assuming there's gaskets under that plenum that need to be replaced after you pull it off?

You can get to it w/o pulling the plenum---start removing hoses abouve it.

    yep- it needs replacement.

I guess the 2 valve 308's have hoses for the coolant into the heads, but the 4 valves have metal manifolds? I've never worked on a 2-valve cooling system. See attached photo of a 4-valve with the plenum removed to see what it will look like after taking off the plenum- except for the metal manifold where your car has a couple curved hoses. I took off more than you will need to. Your hose looks like it has a curve in it- from the attached parts illustration.

I don't know if this can be sourced from NAPA, Autozone, etc. I would take your old one off and try to match it up at NAPA.

I would think the intake plenum needs to come off- but a close look at the hose attachments would decide that. If you do decide to remove the intake plenum- be very careful of the small spacers around each stud (8). While lifting off the plenum, they could fall into the intake riser (the parts stuffed with white paper towel in the attached photograph). On mine, they all stuck to the gaskets that are between the plenum and the risers and gave me no problems.

Finally- if you need to remove the plenum, just replace all the hoses you can while you are there. Most are very inexpensive from NAPA.

    Good luck

You've probably heard this before, but I would also recommend using a oil filter with the proper stand pipe in it, like the factory UFI brand, or Baldwin.

I would say they are equal to the factory oem UFI (based on photos of cut open ones placed next to each other). And at less than half the cost (around $10) they are a literal bargain in the Ferrari parts world.

Mobil 1 filter physically fits, and probably has better filtration properties, but the lack of a standpipe means that during start up, it can take a bit longer for oil pressure to build up. I know, because I had a Mobil 1 filter on my car. I took it off and installed an UFI after a few weeks, as waiting those extra few seconds with the red oil pressure light on, just screamed "extra engine wear" to me.

You got a sharp eye, catching that Mobil 1 oil filter. I never ask anybody if the Mobil oil filter had that stand pipe, well now i know. Thanks
