I think it will be similar to what Mercedes or BMW has that will show a little posted speed limit sign inside the instrument cluster, and you can enable an alert to let you know its going over. I've had it in most of my cars for the last 10 years, then again they've all been big cars. I doubt lesser priced vehicles have this technology and they probably are just making it standard going forward.

I really would not underestimate this. A lot of bad things can follow. For instance, your insurance companies will somehow figure out a way to get their greedy hands on the information and somehow raise your rates or disqualify you. The government could use the info somehow that’s not in your favor, you will be labeled an unsafe driver and it will affect your credit rating. Etc etc. This could go in a lot of different directions. None of them good.

In France car insurance is mandatory and the calculation of the insurance is done according to:
-If you insure the third party or any risk
-If you have passed the driver's license while driving accompanied or not
-The age of your licence without a responsible accident

We have a bonus/malus system: every year your monthly payment drops by 3% if you do not have a responsible accident, up to 50%. On the other hand, each responsible accident increases it by 25% up to 200%.
This black box is used like the black box in a airplane in case of accident

Reading the legislation it is intended to be an extension of the speed limiting function, just removing the need for the driver to set the speed because cars now can read speed signs. This will never be 100% accurate (teslas for years got confused with the speed limit signs on the back of buses here in Australia), and while the system may be legislated to exist in new cars, I doubt it will be used by authorities to detect speeding infringement in my lifetime. That is not to say it won’t be used by others (such as insurance companies) but that will always require driver permission. EuroNCAP and GSR and all the other legislation is quite focussed on data privacy. The legislators know that mass adoption of these features depends on it.

Wait for the EV cars with blue tooth sending notices to authorities that you were speeding to issue you a ticket.

won't happen. But your car will tell the car behind you that you are tired and suggest that the car behind increases its radar cruise control distance...

Received on your phone and deducted from your bank account. Accompanied by an immediate increase of your insurance rate and a reduction of your social credit score. All done in real time. And, the list goes on.

The data will be anonymous. The "speed control" system is also fully defeatable. Just another button/menu to press before setting off.

When driving in France, south of Annecy, there is a section of road where the speed drops from 100Km to 50Km for no apparent reason. (Straight road)
There is a speed camera there that sent me an automatic $185 US ticket for driving at 53Km.

Why wouldn't they simply use the speed sensors in the car rather than the speed cameras on the side of the road?

I think it is inevitable. :(

Up to now I think the system is not connected and it is supposed to store data only for a limited time - so that in case of a crash it would provide data for what were the conditions just before.
Of course it's a slippery slope, I just hope they will manage to provide actually self driving cars (even though given the current s***y software, that may be a long time away) before this crap gets too much in the way of driving.
Then we will not drive by ourselves on the road, and hopefully we will be able to drive relatively freely on tracks.

Because as of now that's not how it works. It's not even connected to the GPS, so the system doesn't know on which stretch of road it is being driven.

System uses the cameras you have in your car plus the information available on the map material used in your gps system , if installed in your car. So basically both , gps and camera supported system. There might be unlimited use for the authorities , once in place. Authorities / Governments here, especially in Germany see individual transport i.e. private cars (non ev) as the public enemy nr 1. I am sure there will be a system in place that automatically issues a ticket in case you do not follow the regulations.

Camera only. The lobby of "safety" is disappointed with the system and labels it a half hearted effort.

First, why is this post in the "model specific" section? This is a more general topic applicable to all drivers....

Second, the reality, with the gps chips and connected devices they have already installed in vehicles, this is simply redundant tech to notify the driver....

Third, there is nothing, from the technology side, stopping them from fully tracking your speed / telemetry and charging you with infractions automatically....

Yes, gov'ts are doing away with any illusion of privacy and it's why I disable a lot of tech and prefer older vehicles..... wE elect these clown oppressors....

I posted it here because this is where I mostly hang out and enjoy with a crowd of folks that seemingly have less starch in their underwear. If you feel so strongly about it feel free to copy and paste elsewhere. Otherwise let a moderator know of my insidious infraction and allow them to remove the post.
Lastly, “redundant tech” or not, this is IMHO another example of unwanted government intrusion and is something we should all be concerned about in its Orwellian nature.

We agree.... And, it wasn't a slight by commenting about the location of the post....I was simply suggesting better engagement in a more generic subforum.... Anyway communicating with mods isn't my thing....All good...
