I just heard that rolling brownouts are possible. Nice. My family is basically living in the basement these days, too hot upstairs. Yes, I said basement.
My house has a basement as well -- I live in Frisco. There can't be very many of us in the DFW area with basements... (My house has a sump pump outside to keep the water away from the house. There can't be many sump pumps in Frisco, either.)
supposedly was 46 this morning, so I debated about wearing gloves for the ride in on the bike this morning - sweatshirt and jacket were enough though... unseasonably cool here, I'm told - just glad I'm not there...
Just got a 50 minute blackout at the hottest part of the day. I guess my neighborhood got the short straw.
wait for it...wait for it.... the 4:30pm screen shot....should be a good one. Nice Stew......California can't afford to have the heat on in the summer?
The A/C unit on the living area side of my house crapped out yesterday afternoon. They can't come to fix it until tomorrow. Good thing it wasn't the unit on the sleeping side of the house!
I was born in the great state of TX and lived thru the '80 heatwave (as well as a '79 tornado). I had a t-shirt that read "I Survived the 1980 Texas Heatwave". IIRC it was yellow with an outline of the state and the high temps of several cities. I did a quick Google search but couldn't find a pic; anyone recall this shirt?
Drive a car with a short wheelbase & you will learn a lot about how it behaves. Seriously, this can't be good for certain tires for anyone that drives long distances in this heat.
Big truck drivers usually drive at night, at least I do to save tires. I bet I wouldn't make it 250 miles before one of the trailer tires gave up.
....and there.....and there......and there......and over there......and there......Oh, and over there, too.
For context, a screen shot of the newscast a few minutes ago: Image Unavailable, Please Login As I noted a few days ago in the [DFW] Look on the bright side........ thread, "....For severity, though, 1980 was still more brutal, with actual temps over 110 starting in early-mid July, IIRC (this was before being told how hot we "should" feel like it was - the "Heat Index").... http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=332317 We still have over 3 WEEKS of just the 105+ days, and another MONTH of 100+ to go, to match 1980. Another perspective, from a Silver thread - I'll still take this over the cold.
I wish I had a basement here. Our next house will have one (built into the side of a hill), with at least 6" exterior walls, solar panels, hideous amounts of insulation, and anything else I can pour into it that will help break the dependency on Utilities.
Ugh. I had the same problem during superbowl week. Fixed it by wiring a generator into the breaker panel.
Well, I went to a Cobb open house event early this evening with a friend of mine that suffered some heat sickness. He was feeling fine at first the complained about getting dizzy & exhausted, sat him inside the air conditioned showroom with plenty of water for a bit, that seemed to help so I drove him back to Fort Worth. The problem was he didn't eat or drink that much today & that just about got the best of him. Stay cool & safe everyone.
