    The 2006 Pontiac Solstice?

It came out in Jan, 2002 at the Detroit auto show as this...

    http://seriouswheels.com/top-Pontiac-Solstice-Roadster-Concept.htm

and will go into production as this...

    http://seriouswheels.com/top-2006-Pontiac-Solstice-Roadster.htm

It will cost $19,995 including $575 destination when it goes on sale in a few months. A/C will be optional (as it should be, imo) and will have an avilable limited-slip differential.

It will have a sister car several months later, the 2007 Saturn Sky which has styling from European Vauxhalls. The Sky will have more standard equipment than the Solstice and will cost more.

The front end, esp the grill looks totally contrived as though the car was designed, sold to the highest bidder and had the marque's grill pasted on.

I take it back. The whole thing looks contrived.

Agree with my Avatarial brother above ^^ I'd pick the new Miata any day vs this, although BARN DOORS RULE this end of the price spectrum.

That new miata is such a joke. I got a good laugh when those pics were released. The only thing that hurts the solstice is the small trunk. Looks are subjective but I think they solstice is the best looking car to come out in years. At least in the 35K and below price range.

The Saturn version is much better exterior and interior wise.

It seems the new miata will weigh about 2400 lbs while the solstice weighs 2900 lbs. That's 500 lbs difference with a hp difference of 10 and torque difference of 30 both in favour of the solstice. I think the choice is clear.

I don't know how much the new miata has grown in size, but the previous gen miata is a lot smaller car than the Solstice/Sky. So the size of the cars play a big role in the weight department. The Solstice/sky twins are more along the size of the Honda s2000.

There is actually 390 pounds between them. The Solstice still weighs less than an Audi TT.

Yeah, you're right, I think I grabbed the weight of the first gen miata and added 22 lbs instead of the second gen. My bad, but the point still stands. ~400 lbs is a lot of weight to carry around.

Agreed - and I also agree with the above post on it looking like a mini-vette. Although I don't know how mini it is, except for in the engine compartment. Another also-ran from GM.

I wouldn't mind the saturn as a replacement for my smart roadster in some years time -if it comes to europe, of course-

If GM puts the Supercharged Ecotec into the Solstice, then we'd have a race...

the Saturn Sky would be my choice. I hate the rounded front end of the Solstice, looks too much like a kind of the discontinued thunderbird. Cars with this kind of OEM "sportiness" should have edges. I am very disappointed in Pontiac.

The 2.4L Ecotec is a great motor. Add some boost (forget supercharging, go turbo), and that will be a mean little car.

Cool cars, nice to see new life being put into Saturn. Still, the Sky is such a cool looking car that it deserves more power - at least a V6. Maybe a V8 could be shoehorned under the hood...

I say f- it. GM should shove a v-12 into the Soltice but sell it at the same price. Man that would be the best selling car ever. Imagine the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times that thing would run.
