    It is not a 512.

Parts are a regular Testarossa (interior, exterior, engine).

Plus the emblem is on the wrong side.

Absolutely love the tan with black interior. Looks to be in fine condition inside.

Standard 1988.5 Testarossa with a set of 512TR polished alloys fitted. Yep, the badge is crap.

Testa guys, check out the centre console to the right of the AC switches. Something has been fitted there that I just can't make out. Any ideas anyone?

ANd some dick hasn't fitted the air intake properly. The large white nylon washers are supposed to go under the sides of the intake plenum to space it away from the heat shield and leave a gap between them. With no gap, sand, grit, salt and water collect there and WILL rust out the intake plenum.

Just fix that whoever buys it. Most annoying. Coz some dopey Irishman did that to my blue car and I'm currently fabricating a new plenum!!!

Well that was bloody quick Jay. Good for you.

Such a shame when they cut holes in the car to fit such things. I'm trying to repair my dash at the moment from old alarm system detectors being cut into it.

Think ahead people. Stuff does get out dated.

I hate aftermarket crap- I had an alarm in my car which I had removed-the guys that installed it way back when under a different owner were butchers. Undoing other peoples wrongs to an old car is always one of the biggest challenges.

is it just me or is there a piece missing from the front spoiler under the driver's side headlight? looks like there's a hole there...maybe it's the picture? ... and does anyone know anything about this car's history? ... cosmetically on the exterior, other than the different wheels, what other differences are there (if any) between the 1988 and 1988.5 testas? thanks

That's stock. The 348 is the same way, on the passenger side. That's the AC condensor (?) intake

Post a question on the midwest/kansas board. There's some pretty active FCA memebers in KC that could probably answer some questions about the car or look it over for you.

giovanni, did you do a pre-purchase inspection on these 2 beauties that you got from ebay? i'm very hestitant to purchase a car on ebay only because you just have no idea what you're getting unless you do a local inspection where the car is located - and even in this scenario, i find that bigger exotic car dealers are in cahoots w/the local places that do inspections on the cars? ... makes it really tough to pull the trigger on something like a testa...so it would be great to hear your story on your ebay testa purchase...if you have the time...thanks.

It started last October when I got the itch of buying a Ferrari and my wife’s approval. I started looking at ebay for a F-car that I wanted in my price range. I came across several that I placed bids. BEWARE OF SCAMS THOUGH. I came across some that where listed twice with different starting bids. When I question one why it was listed twice, the ad came off Ebay next time I checked. Beware of individual selling the F-car on Ebay, Some don’t even have possession of the car. If you win the bid they will ask you to send them a deposit of a couple of grand then disappear. You are better off buying off a dealer with a good track record.

I came across the 348TS that was in my home state and about a 2-hour drive. After winning the bid, I got hit with all kinds of spoof email and at the time I thought that they were legitimate. When I called the deal asking about the emails, they told me to beware of this because it is common on Ebay. I didn’t do a PPI on the car just a carfax report and check the seller’s feedback. I didn’t put any money down till I went and seen the car and drove it myself. I wrote them a check and drove it home.

At that time, they had shown me white testarossa at there show room. The car looked stunning, better than the picture. I was almost tempted to ask if I could buy the TR instead of the 348 but I stood by my original deal. I had the 348 for about a week when I got the Ferrari fever again and decide to buy another one. So once again I turned to Ebay for another car of my dream. The same dealer still had the white TR listed and placed a low bid on the car. They counter offered with another bid and told me that was the lowest they can accept for the car. I accepted the bid and told them I would be down in a couple of days to drive the car and write them a check. That was only 2 weeks after I bought the 348. I did a carfax report on the car and personal inspections too. After writing them a check for the 2nd Ferrari, I drove it home with my wife following me. She had a hard time keeping up with me and I was barely given the car any gas. The car just wants to go fast, the acceleration was mind-boggling. The car ran great and they had proof of the service done on the car. I say the whole process of when I started looking for a F-car and by the time I bought the 1st one was 2 weeks and the 2nd car the same amount of time. Did I rush into the decision, I would say YES. But everything turned out to be a good experience. Now I had two F-car in my garage and displaced my Toyota and truck to the driveway.

My advice is to buy from a reputable dealer and beware of scrams. NEVER send money till you see the car and drive it. Do a car report and if you can get a PPI done my all means do it. I didn’t know of this site till after I bought the cars so use this site to find out any info about the car you are going to buy. A lot of people on this site know about the car you are going to buy. As a matter a fact, I meant someone on this site that bid on the same car (TR) but lost the bid because he was too late (sorry HuskerBill). The TR only had 17,500 miles on it and the 348 had about 20K.

What a difference in riding experience from both cars. My personal experience is the 348 handles better and turns on a dime. The TR around turns feels like it might get away from you too easy. I don’t know if it’s from the tires or it’s the powerful engine. Everyone I take for a ride tells me it gives him or her the goose bumps. The price I paid for the 2 cars I could of bought one that was a newer model but I always wanted a TR and I would rather have 2 to drive than just one anyway. I know I will have double the maintenance cost but I didn’t care. My rational is when one is get a major done on it; I still have another to drive. If you can afford it and the maintenance cost then by all means buy it. Don’t wait life is too short. I hope this helped but if you need further info just PM and I will be happy to answer any questions you have. Good luck. Giovanni

Great and very encouraging posts Giovanni!

From the photos, it appears you bought your car at a dealer in or near Philadelphia? If it's the same one, I bought an M-roadster from them a couple years back, and the deal was great. Drove the car to the Italian Car Fest in the Poconos, then the whole way home to Alabama with my daughter. Very fair folks.

So if you feel like giving them a nod for honesty and fairness, I imagine they and other F-chatters would appreciate knowing which dealer it is.
