Okay, I have switched from DSL to cable because DSL isn't available at my new house. In setting everything up I still have my old DSL POP email clogging things up. My question, when I delete the old POP will it have any effect on my messages in the inbox? I don't want to lose all those emails. I already have the cable POP set as default, but the old DSL POP still asks for a password and give an error.

Thanks, and let the taunting begin! :D

I would create a new folder and move them there just to be safe.

is your e-mail through your cable provider? If it isn't are you able to send e-mail using outlook?

I have all my mail through earthlink but my cable is from Charter. I'm trying to get the cable switched to earthlink so I can send using outlook and not the stupid webmail thing.

What is weird is earthlink uses charter for their cable internet but last time I checked with them they couldnt do it in my area yet I already have it through charter.

you can probably retrieve both just fine while the services overlap, if they still do overlap. however, you will be unable to SEND or reply from the old provider until you change your outgoing SMTP setting. I cannot remember exactly where it is, but try under TOOLS - ACCOUNT SETTINGS or something similar in Outlook Express. You'll be able to edit the particular account there.

Let me know if you need a bit of clarification.

It is tools then accounts. You can set up both accounts and then set message rules to put them in their appropriate folders.

Redmond: Micro$oft has filed suit against the perpetrators of the anthrax letters. The company insists that sending a virus through the mail is copyright to Outlook Express. ;)

On my Linux box, I use sylpheed. I haven't tried it, but there's an experimental windoze version: http://sylpheed-claws.sourceforge.net/win32/. On the XP notebook, I use Mozilla's mail engine for what little email I do on that box.

I think I need to make a clarification too,

I have already set up the new POP and SMTP to default to the new provider. When I pull up tools, under the mail account tab I have my old ISP POP listed and my new one listed and made the default. When I open OE, it asks me for my old name and password, I hit cancel, and the it gives me my new ISP email with no problem, then it kicks a password error for the old ISP email. I can go into tools and remove the old one to stop this annoyance, but my stupid question is- when I remove it will it affect my already read emails in my inbox? I don't see why it would, but I thought it would be better to ask than just do it and wipe the slate clean, so to speak.

    Thanks,

    Dave

Thanks for the clarification. It will not effect you at all. Remove it.
