    ...that you see on the drivers' steering wheels. What do they actually use those for? I know the drivers aren't using them to remember the track layout. Is it for reference when talking to their engineers on the radio?

    Yes, the corners are labeled with numbers. Technicians, engineers and telemetry software refer to corners as numbers, not names.

    So, the race engineer may ask "How is the balance of the car"?

    The driver would respond, for example, "Entry understeer turn 3, exit oversteer turn 5, unstable under braking for turn 7".

    I was watching an interview, and they said the reason for the little maps is so when the driver is in the pits with their helmets on and it's loud, he can pont to that part of the track and make comments.
