Here is a picture of a switch that I do not understand its function. What is its purpose? Does it kick down the transmission to accelerate? My switch is adjusted fully away from the throttle lever, so that it takes about 90% throttle opening before the micro switch is made. It can be adjusted much closer to the lever. What is the correct adjustment / procedure?

Yep, that's the kick down switch. It shifts the trans from 3rd down to 2nd.

I thought so because mine does not kick down! I use the shifter when needed. What is the correct adjustment procedure? or is it "adjust to taste", like an Italian recipe?

It sounds like yours is setup OK. It should kick in near WOT.

Once again I must not be driving hard enough. I never accused myself of that in previous cars but twice now in this one.

    Ken,

mine did not change gear as well although the microswitch was set correctly. Reason: The microswitch itself did not close the contact. To check, simply disconnect a cable and measure the resistance with open and closed contact.
I could not find an identical replacement but one with the same contacts inside which I then transplanted to the old one. Now it shifts down at (or near) WOT.

That will be easy to check. I adjusted mine to switch a bit short of WOT and it seemed to kick in and out, like a faulty switch. I'll know more this weekend.
    Thanks

I checked the switch in the car with the wires connected and the contacts appeared to be closed all of the time. When I disconnected the wires and removed the switch from the car the switch worked perfectly. Both the NO and NC contacts switched on moving the lever. After reinstalling I found it was back to closed all of the time. So I disconnected the wires and found the switch was still good, but the red and white wires were a "closed circuit" when using the beeper on my multi-meter. The closed switch gave 0.0 ohms but the red to white wire showed 12.8 ohms when not connected to the switch. Not knowing what is on the other end of the wires, I'm not sure this is correct. Anyone have similar experience or know if this resistance could be correct?

I had the car out to go to a wonderful lunch today with the FCA Penn-Jersey region today. Nice event! I gave the kick-down a test and it seemed to work but at more throttle opening than is to my liking. So I think the switch and circuit are okay and I will make a small adjustment to kick down a bit sooner.

    Hi Ken,

Your analysis seems to be correct. The resistance you measure with the wires connected is the coil in the transmission which operates the valve for the kick-down function. This is why I had suggested to check the switch with the wires disconnected. With the adjustment of the position of the switch, you can - within certain limits- adjust the kick-down throttle position to your liking.
