I am so sad thinking about how Nawlins & the surrounding area were devastated by Katrina. The video reminds me of scenes from WW2, absolutely tragic

I had such a great time last year at FQC with Franco & John & everybody.

I hope there will be an FQC this year but if there isnt I want Franco to use the $ I sent for FQC to go to help Nawlins recover

I motion that if there is no FQC this year, that donating the FQC funds to the restoration of Nawlins would be a noble & worthy cause

My prayers for all the people injured by this tragedy

    Totally agree, WILLIAMH.

I think most everyone is OK, but telecommunication is wiped out, along with all other infrastructure.

See why I urged you to leave Miami????

Even surviving the actual storm, was only Step 1. This is going to be the most challenging disaster to face the US in quite some time.

From what I've seen on the news, I doubt there will be a FFQC this year...at least not in November.

Carbie, I spoke with him via instant messanger and he is safe, but rattled. He is staying at Dan's house in Baton Rouge before going back to school in GA.

I truly believe that the city will eventually come back much stronger than it has ever been. So much attention, support, and strife will help to push the city to new heights. It will take time, yes. But it will come to fruition sometime down the road.

Next time around this city will have fortified its levee system to such a degree that failure is impossible. It is of utmost necessity.

You can say that again, a good place to start would be to not use earth for the levees and also some redundancy in the pump system. But now isn't the time for second guessing.

We should all be giving something to the Red Cross (or similar), even a dollar can go a long way if everyone chips in.

    PS- Very honerable suggestion William!

Does anyone have an elevation or topgraphic map of New Orleans? I would like to see how each neighborhood in the area sits and how water will collect in other areas.

I can't seem to find one online, anyone?

NO and the MS Coast will have a rare opportunity to reinvent themselves once most of the destruction has been cleared. God help all those who were involved.

Go to Googleearth.com and download the program and you will have all the info.

I hope that everyone comes through this. Does anyone know how many of the LA Ferrari guys were in New Orleans and if they got their cars out?

On a lighter (and sad) note, I saw on the news that Ric's Cabaret sign was laying in the street and water was up several feet inside William, sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

    This whole situation is UNREAL!!!!!!

They KNEW these Hospitals only had so much fuel, usually two days or so.....

    WHERE is the military response?

WHERE are the food and med supply drops, on parachute if need be!

WHY aren't we scrambling US Navy helicopters to provide air support for the medivac copters???????

WHY can't they get a faster 'on the ground' response to OUR OWN COUNTRY?????????????

This is getting harder and harder to watch....Mayor Ray Nagin needs HELP!!!!

Not Congress passing some bill next session, not Bush on the %^$^%$& TV telling us it is a stressful time for the Gulf Coast........

    AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGG!

I should have rented a helicopter yesterday, I can't stand this anymore.........

Our response is Just what it should be...the Army engineers are working on the levies, so the flooding can be controlled. They are also working on generators to get the pumps working. remember how does one get around? On a boat? well what if you hit a live power line?...you also can't get heavy equipment into the levies, they'll bog down in the muck, mud & mire... need to try and dry out the city first!...
as far as the crimes well once again how does one get around? oh sure in the air with choppers, thats really gonna stop looters. The choppers are useless for whats going on beneath them.. whats needed is ground support but again how does one get around in all that water with live power lines, ruptured gas lines (burning)..oh well the power could be shut off. oh wait the power is needed for the pumps, hospitals..
I'm not trying to be a smart a** but logically thinking the response if first things first...evacuate with choppers, shoot back from the air if needed..and dry the place up so ground support can get in there...

very few live power lines left.......

water willl not stop flowing into town until levee is closed....

Corps of Engineers response has been ineffective to stop these breeched levees, 200' - 300' openings in some cases.......

    They are done.......

    Aye, sounds reasonable.

On another note, Kurt Russell has just signed on to act in ESCAPE FROM NEW ORLEANS, the third in the "Escape" trilogy, taking place in the post-apocalyptic 2006 Big Easy.
