I don't know how portable they are, since you do have to bolt them to the floor, but I do like the (relatively) low height. My garage can't accommodate a full size lift -- I've been looking at mid-rise lifts, but this seems like a possible alternative. It's a bummer that the Maxjax costs over $2000, when I can get a standard size two-post lift for around $1500.

I wonder which is better for working on the rear-engined Ferraris (308, Mondial, etc.); the Maxjax or a mid-rise?

Here's a review of the MaxJax.

I have to admit, I'm getting pretty excited about it. I had written off a full-size two post lift due to my garage height. This is looking pretty good.

For me a lift is worthless unless I can get under the car and the ferrari isnt the only car I have.
I like the idea of the max jax for low cealings, I was very close to buying one, even had a discount but I might be moving soon so I had to hold off on the purchase.

So my next house will have at least 10 foot cealings in it or I will build another garage for the toys and ill have a regular two post lift.

The MaxJax is, in fact, bolted to the floor. Specifically, the threaded receivers are flush mounted and anchored into the floor. When you want to set up the MaxJax each post goes in the predetermined spot (predetermined by the location of the anchored receivers), you bolt the posts down and then you're ready to do some lifting.

If you only have 8' or less of height in your garage then you're not going to have a full height lift and you'll be doing some kneeing and stooping no matter what jacking system or car you have. The MaxJax is a nice and compact low-height lift that comes with the added advantage of being removable if desired.

You might need to make sure that the slab in your garage is up to having a bolt in lift like this installed. Not all slabs are created equal.

What was the other portable lift I remember seeing? It was blue (IIRC) and you used a drill to wind it up and down. It was posted here once before.

    Found it:

That is kind of neet if it works well and it's safe. The portability is nice. Moving a car on those small caster wheels means you better have nothing but a very smooth floor with no lips.
At 4" tall it's useless for my race car which is too bad as it would be great to carry with you to the track. Maybe doubling up some 2x12 planks to drive on and then slipping the thing underneath?
    I like it!

But $2K for the equivalent of jack stand access in your home garage????
I'll bet the Chinese could knock it off for $600-800 but in all steel and weighing too damn much.

    Thanks for posting this.

I actually have enough headroom for a taller lift, but I really like the fact that I can put the Maxjax away and get my garage back for 2 cars. So, no one has real life experience on this one yet?
