Thoughts on Modified 365GTC/4

I kinda like it other than the over shiny wheels and tan interior. there was a Forza article about it.

 

Carobu put a hot engine in it too

I agree with Andrew about the wheels (and also not keen on the mirrors) but as a one off I like it.

 

Looks like a car George Barris may have made in the seventies for some television series.

"Body and Styling Modifications

In addition to allowing room for the wider wheels by tasteful flaring of the front and rear fenders, the nose of the C/4 was substantially modified. The ungainly rubber front bumper was completely removed. The headlights and turn-signals were repositioned in a new front grill and the headlight doors eliminated for a cleaner look. The hood strakes remained from a previous modification."

 

My first reaction was negative, bit it's actually starting to grow on me.
It's kind of reminiscent of a Detomaso Mangusta.

This is not a total revamp. the nose could probably be changed back without too much
expense. The front vents aren't too big a departure. What I always disliked about the C4 was the front bumper that rusts from the inside and too many taillights on the rear. I saw a silver one at Cars n' coffee only a month ago and it's lost a little appeal for me , don't know if my tastes have changed or it's looking dated or what.

Does anyone remember the targa one that was for sale in Marina Del Rey about 20-30 years ago? I've seen three targas , one grey with red interior, one black one and one converted to full spyder which was a mistake because once you cut off that roof you lost the character of the car, it looked like a Knight Rider Firebird

Yep,I guess if you had started with a car that had damage/bad rust and missing some bits,then perhaps it may be justified but making a 'hotrod' out of what was a generally good,complete car,well.........................
I think you will have minimised the resale situation,the classic(vintage)Ferrari enthusiast would shun it(I imagine)and it may be attractive to a gansta type person.....

The (low) height of those quad headlights wouldn't be legal in TX -- and we're easy

 

Is it me or are the rear fenders A LOT more flared in this photo (in post #9) versus the earlier photos in the thread? If the fender is really flared as much as it appears in post #9, the evolution of this car kind of reminds me of celebrities addicted to plastic surgery (that tends to not work out well in the long run -- please note that I had the discretion to not mention Bruce Jenner by name).

 

Ooops! That would explain it! I didn't really look at the car closely in that photo because I immediately fixated on the rear flares. I guess my mistake supports the post that the modified GTC/4 looks a lot like the Mangusta. Now that I realize the GTC/4 doesn't have huge wheel flares, I withdraw my plastic surgery comment. The modifications look don't look bad -- it's hard to make any body mods and have it work, but this looks ok (I still prefer stock though).

 

I think the later mod is the best of the two, but the mirrors don't look right to me. Overall, I think the mod has been done in a tasteful manner and looks like it could have existed like this when new, other than the mirrors.

 

Is that one of them new corvettes??

i have the car with 14887 - seen 2007 at the Breakers. Had a look in my files but there is no pic of the VIN. It just had been written down by me, so maybe i am wrong.
any proof of the s/n?

 

Yeeeeech.
The front headlights totally ruin the front end.......even if he did paint the bumper. Only think I like about this is the exterior color.

 

Remove the vent slats and recess the lights another .5 to full inch and it might look more natural / factory. Yes I would take this for $60k!
