So was driving today and the brake failure light came on. Brakes were ok for about 2 minutes then lost all boost. Rock hard pedal. A block later light went out boost came back and fine ever since. Have driven a few more days with no problems. Maybe one way check valve hung up? Any thoughts, thanks in advance. Pete

Maybe a bad electrical connection caused the pump to quit for a brief period? Really can't think of what else could cause it to lose boost and then magically get it back.

I have had the momentary loss of brake assist but mine only occurred when the car was first started. In my case it is the check valve. I remove it and blow liquid through it using liquid filled tubing and an air compressor. That always remedied the problem for me.

It has never recurred once the car leaves the driveway.

Agree, those check valves are old and perhaps there was debris in it. Well worth taking it out and cleaning, or perhaps replacing them.
