I guess this car needs a little consideration for my next car. Positives include some very impressive numbers but also many negatives like it's been Bangled, and drove an SMG for two years and found it was not for me. For now I am leaning towards the next generation Maserati Spyder but need to wait for more info with a big factor being will they offer a GT?

    2006 BMW M6

    What's Special About It?
As sweet as the original M6 was back in its late-'80s heyday, the 2006 BMW M6 carries the Motorsport banner to new heights with specs that put the original to shame. With almost twice the cylinders, twice the horsepower and two extra gears to play with, the 21st-century M6 is in a whole different league.

Like the M5 sedan, the M6 is powered by a 5.0-liter V10 that pumps out 500 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque. It's channeled to the rear wheels via a seven-speed SMG transmission and a variable differential that allows the M6 to hit 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds, according to BMW. Electronic launch control assures perfect getaways every time while a twin-chambered exhaust gives the M6 a distinct sound compared to its sedan counterpart.

Although the M6 uses the same suspension design as the M5, its underpinnings were tuned to compensate for its shorter wheelbase and the lower center of gravity that results from its carbon-fiber roof. The revised suspension includes Electronic Damper Control (EDC) with three modes (normal, comfort and sport) that allow for varying levels of capability much like the two-stage stability control system. A power button on the console allows you to take it down a notch to just 400 hp for less hectic driving, and cross-drilled brake rotors assure plenty of stopping power.

Aesthetic alterations are few. The front air dam is the most obvious change as it opens wide to feed the high-revving engine and competition caliber brakes. The lightweight 19-inch wheels are surrounded by exaggerated side sills that emphasize the car's hunkered-down stance. It's finished off by a rear diffuser that reduces lift and four tailpipes that are a Motorsport trademark.

    What's Edmunds' Take?
The M5 might be a better sleeper, but the M6 could prove to be the better drive. Its smaller size and reduced weight give it the physical edge while its coupe proportions are hard to resist when draped in full Motorsport guise. There are several high-powered luxury coupes out there, but few if any are bound to match the M6 for pure performance. — Ed Hellwig

how much lighter will the m6 be than the m5...the 6series coupe is penlty heavy....the coupe does look much better, but still not as classic as the old 6 series....i wish it came with a 6speed and a less somber interior...i hate the new bmw interiors as much as i dont like the bangle stlying....for a 100k, how about a 550? although it would be as durable an everyday driver as a bmw

On paper the car seems to be great, but the styling just does not do it for me.

I almost bought a real ///M6 2 years go. I regret not going forward with that greatly.

As for the new ///M6, I am intently looking at it. I think the current 6 coupe is ok in terms of styling, but the question is is it better then the SL? In terms of styling...

Driving wise, I hope to God it does not have active steering.

I simply can't get past the absolutely horrid styling and the SMG gearbox. And I've seen enough coupes and cabriolets in the flesh now to be able to say that with 100% certainty. To the core I am a car guy and try to look at everything objectively.....but this "thing" is simply disgusting to look at.

And......if the car looked good.........I still wouldn't buy it because of the lack of a manual gearbox.

Sorry to be so negative about it.

I guess I know there will be no M6 in my future due to that fact, Just like why I have never considered any of the MB's in the past. Just getting nervous that more and more cars including Ferrari's and Maserati's may be doing away with traditional manuals in the future. I know that myself and another F-chatter voiced our concerns to Maserati but were met with a deaf ear

I think it's 300 lbs lighter. It will be great. It's as heavy as my M3 convertible but it will have 170 more Hp and another gear. I would drive it.

I don't see anything wrong with the M6 styling at all, I think it looks very sporty and elegant at the same time. I guess Different strokes for different folks. Then again theres lots of people who seem to love the whole Aston Martin styling.

  12. I seen and sat and drove the 645Ci and I loved it. I own a E60 525i and love it aswell. Wasnt really a BMW guy had a 96 525i back in the day had many problems but it was bought used and later sold. The M6 will surely be a performer with a very nice interior two tone leather all the goodies. And it will blow away Mercedes in terms of feel and handling which in terms if more to soem people then just HP and 0-60 times. It doesnt lack in numbers or HP either it will be a great car.

Why not get the 2006 Aston Martin V8 Vantage instead?

    http://seriouswheels.com/top-2006-Aston-Martin-V8-Vantage.htm

Its 380 hp 4.3 V-8 is based on Jaguar's 4.2 V-8 but the cylinder block to the cylinder heads, crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, camshafts, inlet and exhaust manifolds, lubrication system and engine management are unique. It also has dry-sump lubrication.

Here is a video of that V8-powered Aston

I was looking foward to replacing my 2000 M5 with a new M5 or M6 until I found out that only the SMG gearbox would be offered. So, I guess I'll put another 100k miles on my current M5 and see what comes out next?
