I think the car looks beautiful, and like the CS style wheels too. Have you sat in the sport seats I assume? I like them but they are very firm and not for everyone since different body types will fit different. I agree with the black leather, as that is all I want to and dislike the light tan on red ferrari's. I do like cuoio ok, but not as much as black with red stitching to match a red exterior (and red daytona inserts are great too ). I do think the car at $140 is not a steal, maybe lower $130's, but that just depends on how much more effort you want to put in. Round trip plane tickets and time add up too. Good luck.
As many have alluded to already it's probably not a "steal" but it's also not a bad deal if some of the options are to your liking. At the end of the day if you love the way the car is optioned out (seats, brakes, etc.) then you shouldn't worry about paying a little more in order to get it the way you want it. There are cheaper cars out there but then you might have to sacrifice or settle when it may not be necessary to do so. Buy it if YOU like it! Enjoy!
It may or may not apply to 458s. All I know is what I was told by dealers. I wasn't in the market for anything they were selling, so no ulterior motives in this case. I have no first hand experience with them myself and therefore no opinion. Dave
Between the last week of January and the first of week of February, a PPI was done on this car uncovering extensive undisclosed accident damage. The selling dealer at the time, Mercedes of Chandler in Phoenix, feigned ignorance, but after the PPI killed the deal, the car went right back up on eBay as accident-free. A week later, a Porsche dealer in Phoenix put this car on eBay, touting a clean CarFax. Specifics of the uncovered damage: Heavy bondo and Fiberglas used to repair the forward area of the driver side door, with obvious sand marks; slight paint mismatch between the driver side rocker panel and rear quarter panel; abnormal gap between the front bumper and body panel, with slight buckling of the panel; big dent in the door panel. It was deduced that the car was hit on the driver's side, with the damage spreading from there. Rusted bolts all over the floor panels were also discovered, as were dry-rot cracks in the front tire tread. At that point, there was no need to continue with a mechanical inspection, so I have no information on those components. But SD3 data showed the clutch was nearing its end at 70% worn.
Why didn't you just say this at the beginning? Somebody forked over a clutch job.... IF this is true, I'd look for a better car.
Wow.. VERY good to know. This is why I love Fchat and the Ferrari community as a whole. Looks like I'll be making a call in the morning.
Can you PM me the info on the member that provided this info? Or the name of the shop where the PPI was done? Much appreciated...
I can contact the member, send him a link to this thread, see if he's open to being contacted by another potential buyer.
I was in the same situation as you half a year ago. Made a deal on this car over the phone, then traveled to Phoenix. In person i could tell right away that poor collision work had been done. What was supposed to be a PPI then became an exercise to establish how bad the damage was. As you can see from Carbon's notes, it was extensive (with one correction, the big dent was in the floor, not door, panel). This episode occurred when the car was at Mercedes Benz of Chandler. It then made its way to Porsche Scottsdale and is now at Ferrari Scottsdale. What the three have in common is that they're all Phoenix area Penske dealers. In the course of inquiring about the car i spoke by phone to three salesmen at the Mercedes dealer. I asked each one about accidents. No one disclosed anything. After the inspection, two of them were shown the shoddy repair evidence and acted surprised. One said they should pay for the inspection. Apparently he wasn't serious as they didn't follow through. I find it hard to believe that they had no idea (the car must have been scrutinized by other potential buyers in the several months they had it), but what is undeniable is that from that point on the damage was known. Apparently nothing was disclosed to you either. I find such lack of integrity by high-end new car dealers disappointing. Hopefully it is just a reflection on the Penske group and not dealerships in general. I provided the inspection results to Carbon since he tries to track every Ferrari and people in the know query him before buying a used one. A big thank you to him for keeping this extensive database and actively watching out for us. He brought my attention to this thread. Hopefully this has saved you from making the trip, or worse, a disastrous purchase.
Thank you very much for the info. While I'm sure at some point that it's possible for a dealer to recieve a car into inventory and truly not realize that a car has been damaged.. it's really pathetic when they DO know and simply shuttle it off to another dealer, hoping to dupe an unsuspecting buyer. Again, thank you for the info... this could have been ugly.
I also looked at this car (just not in person). I talked to a salesman at the Porsche dealership about this car and he made no mention of any of this. Looks like this car is being passed around like a red headed step child to all of the Penske dealerships.
Well, if this actually turns out to be what's happened here, I'm going to do it myself. Not sure of FoNA cares or not, but they will find out about it.
+1 I hate SHADY dealers.... Yep, now this car rings a bell, now that the Porsche dealer was mentioned. I considered this car as well when I was searching and quickly RAN from it. Sad part is someone is going to buy this car and be blindsided by the history, I love F chat for this reason You guys on Fchat saved me on a car in Cali that I WAS TOLD WAS A 10, when it was clearly a 6. To the OP keep searching, their are a ton of great examples available! I waited for months and found the right car for me and I am very content with my purchase.
+1 on Shady dealer. +1 on Hate shady dealers (most used car dealers could be considered shady in the sense they are out to sell non-new cars all of which have some story, and generally dont illuminate issues.) -1 on Hating this car. Ferraris have feelings too!! This is probably a great car, it is just not priced to reflect its condition and/or history. If you dont think Ferraris have feelings, fine, then its just a machine, a sum of the parts, and probably a good, reliable machine at some price. Now the salvage titled cars that have been outside with no windshield for 13 months with rats and whatever else nesting in the AC system, from these Ferraris you can run.
If I could see pics of the actual damage, and be assured there wasn't any frame damage, AND the car was fixed correctly, and was priced to reflect said damage (say.. .$110,000) I would not hesitate to buy it. But what frustrates me is not have accurate information to make an informed decision.
Wow. I am stunned by this level of failure to disclose by an authorized dealer. Didn't they also claim the car passed Ferrari Certified inspection? Should be reported to Ferrari NA. Whether they do anything about it is up to them. But they need to know about such practices. And the dealer need to know they got reported. Sooner or later an unsuspecting guy will walk in and think he got a good deal and walk out with the car. Thank god for fellow f-chatters!
Someone should fax, email, or drop off the proof of damage so that the dealer cannot claim ignorance w/o being subject to violation. I'll withhold judgement until after this step has been taken. But, if it smells like a turd, it probably is.
This is absoulte crap. There are several Fchatters who looked at this car before, at other Penske dealers, passed on it b/c of the damage issue (and I'm sure brought that to the attention of the dealership) and they are still saying they are not aware of any damage? Report them!
That is correct. I even asked them flat out if they knew that the car had been at two of their other dealerships in the area. They denied knowing that.... Round and round we go....
