So I've been on FChat for a dozen years or so, I'm now starting to really *look* for my first Ferrari...am thinking an F355 or possibly 360, must be a coupe with a manual transmission, not red or yellow, tan interior is great, ideally prefer something driven regularly that's fairly sorted.

Love the 355, like many I'm drawn to the 95 for its lack of OBDII - though I recently read somewhere here that 95's are known for fouling plugs? Is this common?

Anyway, I keep looking at this ad:
    https://www.legendcarcompany.com/1995-ferrari-f355-gtb-c-159.htm?type=Used&sold=Available&

If I go the route of an F355, on the surface this one ticks a lot of my boxes. To my eye it looks great, and from one of the pics, there's a stack of maintenance records that indicate a major service plus valve guides were done in 2013, so good news about the guides but there's a major due in a year. No idea about headers.

Ask is $95K which is the high side of what I'm looking to spend, was hoping to keep things closer to $75-80K by finding something similar but maybe higher (maintained) miles, but I'm aware how things can add-up money-wise in any event.

Any thoughts on this car? Thanks in advance.

Looks really nice in the photos. Other than a slightly dog eared passenger airbag I would say it -appears- to be nicer than most and condition matching mileage. I would have an inspection done or look at in person to be sure. (though I did neither when I bought mine). As for 95's fouling plugs, I have heard the same.

Has never happened on my car though I've only had it a few years and driven it a few thousand miles. It also see's a -bit- of high rpm usage when driven so if this thing fouled a plug I would be really surprised. Dump it into 6th and chug it around at 1000rpm at 30mph like it's a Corvette I think that may be more of an issue.

I've had 4 95 355s and never had an issue fouling plugs.
That car looks like a great example. Too bad you don't want yellow, or I'd be sending you a PM.;)

Thanks for the replies, guys, I appreciate it.

Love the 355 in yellow, I think it looks great! I'm just not a yellow car guy, I try not to stand out quite that much, haha...that 97 does present well! I'm keeping my options open, not dead-set on a 95, just started looking so who knows where things'll end up. The season's ending up here in NH so no real rush, other than the market seems relatively soft at the moment.

I'm aware of some of the differences between the 95 and later cars, is there that much of a real-world end-user difference between the two? Some say not really, but then you see people who've had nothing but 95 cars and I would figure there's a reason for that. I've tried searching on here and most of my keywords are "too common", so it's not been much help...

I own (2) 355's - had a 3rd and sold it. A 95 is a more raw car. Hard to express - easy to feel. I also have a 98 F1 and love it. They'll have to pull it from my cold, dead hands :)

    It's a black / beige combo.

I look the photos of this car over later and post my thoughts.

I Just bought similar spec 97 black/beige with a recent major and ~20k miles for materially less. I think even 75-80 is optimistic unless the 95 vs odb2 car basis is really that high- other members will have to comment here as it was not really a consideration for me. I've visited these guys in Peapack a few times (almost bought a 911 from them) and they have a really nice collection of cars and are very knowledgeable so definitely worth a look if you are local. Last time i was there they had a few 308/328s, 550 barchetta, 512tr, 355 spyder and a 400.

This one is almost identical but 2 years later production seems to be more in line with current values-

Have a 95. Don't have that issue. I was told not to start it and then immediately turn it off or similar. Like moving it out of the garage. Rather to start it and leave it running for a few minutes before shutting it off. Not really sure this does anything but in any event I don't have the issue.

Have had a 1995 for 11+ years and have never had an issue with fouling plugs. I cannot think of another car that I would rather have instead of my 1995 F355 Berlinetta other than a 458 for under $200K. Good luck with your search.

OK, here are my thoughts on the LM legend car (solely from review of the photos and add - keep in mind, photos can be misleading at times and they don't tell a mechanical story)

    - Very mild scrapping under front bumper as seen from front view (typical)
    - Small leather scuffing on driver's side leg bolster (likely from hand brake)
    - Sticky parts refinished (no vent arrow graphics - likely rattle can work, but still not sticky - yes, I'm biased;) )
    - Rear window, exterior 3-piece trim is sticky
    - HVAC overlay is not ours nor a does it appear to be a Hill Engineering - looks like a really poor paper version
    - Ashtray housing is bending upward
    - Leather has some spots of sticky goo not cleaned off
    - Passenger airbag corners curling up
    - Instrument pod leather does not match dash leather - one of them has been recovered (likely the instrument pod)
    - Unless it's an illusion - front windshield trim is not black - it looks titanium and that is not correct)
    - Aftermarket speakers on rear shelf & amps in front trunk (depending how these have been mounted, might have issues when removed)
    - Hard to tell but I see some issue with driver side door sill
    - Engine bay pretty clean but still missing RH lateral panel
    - PS reservoir updated and it appears to have fuel divider block recall done (this is a single fuel pump car)
    - Appears the value guides have been replaced but also appears car is about due for a major

Here is the car FS back in 2015: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/1995-f355-berlinetta-14-600-miles.493296/

In general, it looks like a nice car. Give the current market and need for a major, I'd say it's worth high 80's pending a thorough PPI.

Thanks for taking the time to write that up, Dave - there's still a lot I don't know that I don't know, especially in the details, this helps! 3.2 Carreras I know, 355s not so much yet...mostly I just know I like them :)

What are the wires for that are coming off the battery terminal and grounding post in the back? Battery tender?

There should be some tags on the engine bay side panels....or are they not there for the 1995's?

Almost bought this car, but Luke got to it before me! This was a nice example (higher miles, but it did check lots of the boxes) and the black carpets are quite unique for a tan interior, which I was a fan of.

Fortunately, I found a white Berlinetta '95 for sale. :-D
