As I am not as educated on Porsches as most in this area, I was curios on peoples thoughts?

I know many of the cons to buying a salvage car... difficult resale if not sale proof, if they are such a good deal why doesn't the dealer fix it and sell it himslef...etc.

Yet I am drawn to this car for a couple of reasons.
    1. Location
    2. Price; it looks like I'm dupming a project car from my garage and after that is sold I'd be into this for $5K. At that level I think I'm willing to take the gamble.
    3. Damage, never really been interested in a collision type salvage car because of possible unseen structural damage that could be dangerous.

There are no service records, so I have no way of knowing if the RMS has been attended to or anything else for that matter. Anyway, is it complete lunacy to consider this car?

    Thanks

Whats the worse case scenario? You loose half or so.....if you want it and can afford to loose worse case...buy it.

If the car was serviced at a dealer you may be able to get the records from them. I would be concerned about electrical/ECU problems in a car that was flooded, do a PPI and have them check the computer codes, etc. Also check wheel bearings, suspension bushings and shocks, steering rack, etc etc for signs of water damage.

That said, a nice 996 with a tippy and no damage history/correct title and records can be had for only $5-10k more so this might not be the deal of the century.

Here's a hint......they are all marketed as "shallow water" flood cars.......LOL !!! Where do you think most of the ECU's and other electrics/wiring harnesses are routed, thru the roof ?

    Run, don't walk.....run.

They want $15K, and you can buy a "real one" with a valid title and no BS that is easily resaleable for another $5-10K.

Don't know how to double quote, so thanks to you and KDS for saying pretty much the same thing.

The short version is that for next spring I'm looking for something my wife and I can use for long weekends, week long va-ca's...etc that is a little more dependable/comfortable and user freindly than what's in the current stable. The budget is $35K. This car caught my eye because it's close, as a rule 996/997 would fit my criteria and the price. I'm not going to spend $30K on a 996/997. I have a number of other options in mind once we get to that level. This car is 80% of what I really want at a seeminly reasonable price...so I thought I'd investigate.

I certainly don't want to get into a $ pit which is why I reached out to those who know these cars a little better than I do.

    Thanks

Uhh where are you finding 997's for $30k? And if they WERE $30k, I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better car for the money.

My apologies, I meant 996/997 as an example of a "type" of car that fit my needs not just specifically one or the other. I could have put 911/993/996/997...

    Thanks.
