Wow, Boxer prices have come down a lot in the past few years. There's an apparently nice one at Chequered Flaq for $67K (although it's a CIS model - I prefer Webers). In the back of my head, I'm thinking it would be nice to upgrade the 308 to a Boxer. Any thoughts or opinions on this? Are parts and service way more expensive for the Boxer (the 308 seems pretty easy to work on, and parts are readily available from Ferrari UK, etc.).

    Just wondering...

You have to ensure the car has Both DOT/EPA inspections & find out who did the Americanizing.

I think the 308 handles better than the BB although the BB has more power, Both are great looking but the 308 is topless :)

Martin at Cavallino Motors has one listing for 69k. I'd love to have a V12 for a street car! To me there is nothing like a V12 Ferrari - know what I mean?

...And indeed the Boxer IS nothing like a V12....

    (Sorry, couldn't resist that...) :)

PS Do it - but be prepared for a whole new meaning of 'expensive'

Sheehan just dropped the price on a carb '79 to 72,500....

NO WAY would I do that!

I'd keep 'em both, maybe throw in a glass 308GTB, and quietly close the
    door.....

That's Speedy308's plan...jus' so you know...Did that Gold 308GTB Boxer trim sell out in California?

Uhhh, Wayne...not sure what chart you're using....

They have bottomed out as of four years back and are now firming and trending up a little bit...but with various cars of different years and condition $$$ are all over the map...

A high miles carb car (180oooKM) stiffed on ebay and couldn't get past $34K!

No Sale as far as I know, but I cannot find anyone that'll say what happened to it........

I think 65 - 75 will get you a good one, with "silly money' all the way to 115 for one that still smells like Enzo's rear end....when he test drove it.........;)

That would be a heck of an upgrade! From a "poorman's" exotic to a legitimate, iconic, exotic supercar.

    Kind of like going from a 1970 914 1.7 to a 930.

    Do it!

Boxer is more car in absolutely every way, but don't try to save a few dollars on the front end; believe me, given the difficulty and expense of finding parts for them, anything that can't be rebuilt on a car with needs will more than set you back that initial savings. Buy the best one you can afford, make sure everything has been done, and drive the hell out of it. They are fabulous (and, as i've said here more than once, the Boxer is the only Ferrari i regret having sold).

Their is nothing like a flat 12 Ferrari, the flat 12 proved very successful in F1 racing for Ferrari.

Parts can be challenging and expensive but there are alternatives, such as having items rebuilt such as clutch cylinders.

In comparison to my 328 which IMO is far superior in design and performance to a 308 I'd say the Boxer is just much more of everything, more exotic looking, faster and better sounds, the interior is much roomier also, the car also has a very handmade old world craftsmanship build to it, you can just look everywhere and see the care and quality in making and designing of the car.

My car is total Euro spec so no bumpers at all just fibreglass covers, the hood is very low you can see why the car would never pass crash tests as the turn signal lenses would be hit first. The doors which are aluminum feel feather light vs the heavy 3X8 doors, the same with the front and rear bonnets which are aluminum.

I sold my 308 GTS QV (had it 5 years) and bought a Boxer last November.

The ONLY thing that I miss about the 308 is the targa top, other than that, the Boxer absolutely RULES!

I agree with Whart's comments. Don't buy a "bargain" car, find one that has been thoughly gone through and sorted out. It's well worth spending the extra money up front.

One other thing I didn't mention was the attention factor, if you don't like it in your 308 you absolutely hate it in a Boxer its many times greater along with questions about the car and requests to see the motor

I haven't really noticed much extra attention in driving the Boxer, compared to my two previous 308s.

    I don't think Joe Q. Public really knows the difference between a 512BBi, 308 or a 328.

However, I have received a LOT more attention from other Ferrari owners/drivers though. ;)

I would say you get the usual its a Ferrari reaction from people but many can tell its different than say a 3xx series car with the Orange turn signals, the width of the car and overall look which causes greater attention along with the sounds, the people that know the car usually guys flip, even if they don't know the car when the decklid is open it causes quite a reaction.
I walked up on a whole crowd around the Boxer they didn't know I owned it and overheard many compliments on the car such as they liked it better than a Enzo, not something that has happened with my 328

Boxers will have to pass smog in California if the new smog laws go into effect (all cars post-1976). I guess that really only matters to those of us who live in CA. Does anyone know how clean these cars run? Will this end up being a major problem for the carb'd cars?
