I am cutting some more thread on my old 348 wheel bolts. I have a M14 Die, but thats not the right one I can see... So what kinda thread is used here.... F-geek question I guess? (my tool for tread measurements are 100 km away....)
I just measured the thread on one of my stock 1990 348 wheel bolts, it's 14 x 1.5. What's the point? Will more threads actually engage even if you have them available? I don't think so. Not unless you reduce the thickness of the wheel flange, which isn't going to happen. Note: I tried an experiment, greasing the threads on my wheel bolt for reference before I put it back on. Only half of the threaded part of the bolt engages the threads on the hub. So if you cut more threads on your bolt, they would NOT actually thread onto anything, unless I'm misunderstanding what you're doing.
Here are some pics of me measuring the wheel bolt through my wheels. I also see no point in cutting more thread. The length of the thread is perfect through the wheel hub and looks to be around 22mm in length. Unless Jeff and I are both missing something? Thanks guys. I am in the process of making my 360 wheels fit propperly. That indeed mean machining some of the wheel flange, there is plenty of meat in rear 360 wheel flange, so its even possible to keep the recomended 20mm thick flange intact. I have some aftermarket wheels bolts, but they dont look right on there. So I had the stock bolts machined, shorter and with new thread. I will mount them today, and get back. Fingers crossed they sit right now.
