Two of my Ferrari that had a major done last month and the last one is being done now. That makes three major's in last two months. I wonder if that's some type of record ;). Thankfully I will be set for the next 6 years on the 308, 348, and Testarossa. I don't want to hear any complaining for those who have done a single major ;). Thanks to Daniel who provided almost all of the parts needed. It looks like I'm under my 20K budget. I wonder what kind of vacation I could have had with that money.

    20k for a major on a tr, 308 and 348 ????

Did you outsource the labor to india to hit only 20K ? ROLMAO !!!!

Or did you mean 20K in parts alone ?

20 for those three is about right. If you pay more either the car is junk or you're getting screwed.

Maybe we need to define what was done for 20k. If its just belts pull out and put back in sure....but were the valves adjusted ? plugs ? fluids changed ? cant see it being done with shop rates at $90 an hour

at $20K for all three cars, I would think that fluids etc were all done. why would you think it would cost more than that? at roughly $6600 per car that sounds about right, and like Rifledriver said anything more than that and you are getting screwed.

Nope under 20K with parts. All cars had the full major with valve adjustment, fluids, new plugs, new filters, etc. I'm in the business so I get a labor discount. I also save on the parts by paying shop rates and buying the Ricambi service kits. The Testarossa was done by Gary Bobileff and the 348 and 308 were done by Steve Maxwell. There were no real surprises on the Testarossa. The 348 was leaking from everywhere and we changed all the seals. The 308 has no surprises so far other then the water pump bearing is toast. I'm going to use it as a paperweight and go with the big bearing pump. The 308 doesn't need any carb work as they were just rebuilt a few years ago.

I think where most people run into trouble on majors is extras. Thankfully other then the fact that my 348 was leaking like a sieve. There wasn't anything drastic that needed attention. In all fairness to the 348. It's been 5 years and 15K since the last major and some of the seals like the rear main were original. I had also done all the updates (cam drain, oil pump) last time.

A FULL COMPLETE major and my labor rate is far more than $90.

I figure $7500-$8000 each for the 348 and TR. The rest goes into the 308.

If that can't be done they need to find a new line of work because they don't have a clue how to fix a car.

    It's not a career, it's just a major. Sheesh.

When you break it down and do the exchange it does sound about right.

9K for the tr/348 in CDN dollars, which is 8K US....and 4K US being about 5k CDN for the 308....plus we have a higher taxing system here....so the 20 grand kindda seemed low...but makes sense.

Ace....you are not getting a FULL Service on a TR or 348 for $6,600 in Ontario unless its just 2 belts...cant be done. The kits alone are 2 grand each car, let alone oil, valve adjustment, tranny flush, anitfreeze and brake flush... you need 9K closer to 10K CDN when you add in the 13% in taxes at the end ;) Gotta love Canada !

yes we do, its called the GST here in Canada...goods and services tax... its on everything at 5%....every product and every service.

On the parts you pay both the taxes the PST (Provincial tax 8%), and then the GST on the parts 5%...Then the labour just the GST 5%.
