Can someone locate an article from one of the US car mags from back in the early 80's?

The story was about three cars - all silver- being driven from the factory to their new owner in England. A Countach, Urraco and Silhouette. It was an amazing story (especially to a college kid - me - at that time), but sadly one of the cars was badly wrecked just before they arrived at the owner's.

BTW- I've just been perusing the "Silhouette" thread and it's amazing how few of those cars there are.

The article in question also appeared in Car & Driver, August 1977. Six pages, five b&w pictures. I have it here.

Edit: Does this online article gloss over the accident that befell the Countach?

Amazing article. Thanks for sharing. I really feel that those vintage articles were way better than the ones in the modern magazines, full of details and really expressing the feelings of the journalist.

Yes, I'm fairly sure they were all gold in colour. I have the magazine but it's in a box somewhere.

Hi Were def all gold not silver.
Have the mag and copies and a series of Car's best stories was reproduced here in the UK and that was one of them!
Remember it well first time around. Sat and read it all through an economics lecture at uni!

Thanks for posting that link. Brought back a lot of memories.

1977, huh? I was quite a few years off. I was a Road & Track subscriber at the time (and was in high school, not college.) For Car and Driver, I had to visit the town library. After several reads of that article, I decided to "permanently liberate" those pages from of the magazine. I carefully, carefully tore it out and smuggled my prize past librarian's watchful eye. I still remember feeling bad about the theft.

I also recall what the author said about the wreck. To paraphrase: "Despite the severity of the crash, it was a tribute to the engineers that the car's scissor doors still opened with ease." I remember being very hurt just reading about the crash.
