    It's more that F got smarter, and eventually realized that, although a very narrow tip could be made to work OK if everything was properly adjusted, it just wasn't necessary (especially on the dual dist 308s that only have 4 contacts inside the cap like yours). If you do a search on one of the online F parts websites using the part number 95300289, you'll get a long list of cars that use/used the narrowest one like this:

    On your 308QV, not only did they realize the rotor tip could be made much wider, they went back to the more conventional rotor mounting style of the carbed, dual dist 308 rotor (the rotor mounting style on the dual dist 308i-2V got a little wacky/stupid). Your 124288 rotor with the wider tip would be my preferred choice on any carbed, dual dist 308 or 208 (makes getting the relationship between the rotor and the points, or pick-ups, correct far less fussy).
