I took the 458 to the Paul Ricard track at Castellet in southern France last week. I was really glad I took spare brake pads as after 3 runs of 30 mins each the rear pads were almost worn out on the inside - I had the car serviced at the dealer the day before and they said I had nearly 50 per cent remaining. I put this down to being in "race" mode as the driver assistance really kicks in during fast driving on the track.
So I decided to change to CT off for the rest of the day. Man the difference was noticeable. You can really feel the car's natural handling capabilities as you push it to the edge, particularly around the corners. It was really fun pushing the car into a controlled drift in safe conditions. Around the hairpins you have to be very careful - too much throttle before you straighten up completely and you WILL spin the tail out.
Anyway I had a ball - CT off adds an extra dimension to the car and significantly increases the fun factor. I don't think I was faster in CT off than in Race but I was still running rings around those 911 Turbos. There was a 911 GT2 which was faster than me but I put this down to superior driver capability.
One of the Scuds at the track has a Ferrari GoPro camera mounted in the car just behind the driver's right shoulder. It shows the steering wheel and instrument panel and the track as seen by the driver. When replayed it shows a pictogram of the rev counter and speedometer as the device links into the ECU. Pretty cool... does anyone have one?

thanks for sharing your track experience....

re the "GoPro", the GoPro itself just captures the raw video (and some sound). Likely your colleague had some data logger installed as well. there are (too) many out there to pick from (RaceKeeper is a popular entry level system in the US). Many have GPS integrated. I recently had a full AIM Evo4/SmartyCam system installed on my 430 Challenge; gives great video but also captures endless amounts of data.

Re the CT off....Ferrari's stability/traction control is aggressive. In the 430C, you need to turn it "off" every time you start the car. I did a session last week, first lap I was convinced I lost the engine as I had no drive out of the corners....turns out I left ASR on. It's THAT invasive. Then again, if you're learning, brake pads are cheaper than repairing a barrier impact.

Sounds like you drove the car the way it was intended to be driven! Get some footage and post it next time!
