Had the urge to take the Dino for a spin today,I had trouble with the accelerator cable some time ago in fact I have had the fiberglass pan of the bottom of the car that many times to repair it I can do it record time now.I decided to take the Dino up to a business friend of mine, the restoration of this car started some 20 yrs ago and he let me use his sandblaster for all the little bits a pieces I could restore myself and he has never seen the end result. We have a relative new highway not far from where I live called the M5 or people who use it in the peak period call it the car park for obvious reasons. It links into our latest masterpiece called the M7,this was going to be the first outing where I could cruise 60to70 mph, before I left I checked things I might need for my 50 mile round trip,Ihave only done 45 miles previously, trolley jack, toolbox assorted screw drivers water bottle may get thirsty on this adventure some saos with vegimite(you have to try our vegemite)and some string.Off I go onto the M5 crikey those double b trucks are Huuuuuuge when your 6 inches of the ground.Im sitting on 70 mph it sounds great gauges looking ok found where my cabin gets its hot air from up the hand break boot Illl fix that another day this is what Ive been waiting 20 yrs for, Im in heaven its sure is getting warm in hear am I sure Im not in that other place, better not try and take my jumper off at 70mph,I try my new Becker Euro II Stereo, dont bother Ill have to put the windows up to hear it and Iwould melt well the radio looks nice. How good is this I feel great coming up to the end of the M7 taking the windsor road exit that will take me to Rouse Hill, down through the gears double the clutch just like a pro, oops that didnt sound right no revs not the bloody cable again, sure enough where I was going to make a grand entrance I only managed to coast down the driveway. My friend Col didnt mind at least it looks great he said,I managed to wind the cable back enough to get enough revs to drive it about 3000rpm,I then said goodbye and of I went there was a bit of play in accelerator before it pulled up the slack other than that it was fine.About 15 mins later I started to get that old feeling no not that sort of feeling the dreaded no revs feeling, had to pull over no more tollerance on the cable and I didnt feel like taking the pan off so you probably guessed by now when you take your Dino for a drive dont forget the ball of string, got me home okay its surprising how good you get adjusting the revs by pulling on the string.Ive enclosed some photos didnt realise till I got home that I had burnt myself adjusting the cable. The triangle piece is only relavent to right hand drive cars the cable goes through a hole in the screw and relies on tightening down on the main body I have made up an alternative cable which I will install another day,Hope I havent bored you all I still love my DINO we are a very lucky few.maybe some one can rotate the photo?
