Russ is the expert, but as I understand it, these would be a direct replacement only on the carb version of the 308. The QV and 2 valve intakes are different.

Russ has a contact that created QV/3.2 carb intakes that he used with his weber conversion in his Mondial. IF the throttle bodies are a direct bolt-in replacement for the carbs, they should work with the custom intake.

You'll still need engine management, etc.

i won the auction for these throttle bodies, actually, i was the only bidder. looks like i will start scavenging parts, an ECU and harness and some sensors, new fuel pump etc. If anyone has any good ideas for a setup, , where to get parts, or any info, it would be greatly appreciated. i am currently running an electromotive - first design, on my 78 euro carb GTS.

That seems like a steal for those, well done!

Those are 44mm throttlebodies and your intake is set-up for 40mm, so to take full advantage, you'll probably want to open up your intake a bit....and porting the heads would also go a long way.....the intake side is pretty bad from the factory...

Anyway, you need an ECU. Since you already have electromotive coils and trigger, sticking with Electromotive is probably the cheapest/easiest for you. Haltech would be prety close in price and then there's motech with are the most expensive, but pretty nice (I just bought an M800 for my QV).

For a fuel pump, any aftermarket EFI pump will do.

    Good luck!

hey thanks for the info Mike, i did not realize i will have a mismatch in intake manifilold from 40 to 44 mm - hmmmmmm. i need to pull the intake manifilds to install new gaskets anyway, so, i will see about opening them up. i dont want to loose any torque either going with these, but it looks as if i might with the larger bore - and there is no venturi in the bore like the webers have - hmmmmm, maybe i jumped the gun???? need to do more research.....

You won't lose any torque, you'll probably gain 5-10 ft-lbs across the board....webers are also know by another name in performance circles, flow restrictors. The TBs without al the juck in the bore will work much better. The whole torque loss thing is more about over porting or over camming without adding enough compression...and oversize TB shoukldn't cause that.

The intake system is actually a bit screwy on 308s, with 2v being worse than the 4v. An ideal intake track will taper at about 4 degrees from the air inlet down to the valve seat...but that's not what ferrari did on the 308s. On a 308, the track is an hour glass with the smallest part at the head/manifold interface...much less than ideal. I just don't know what they were thinking, but thye fixed it on the 348.

As for the bores of the TBs being too big for the manifold, the best thing is to open the manifold to match But, you can go big to small with only minor losses, it's going small to big that causes the most problems generally.

If your car is a '78, does it have the the low lift, low duation cams or the early good cams?

Hi Mark, (sorry, i called you by mike in the previous thread). i have the euro spec 308, so i have the juicy cams along with borgo hi compression pistons. thanks for your help so far..........

    Hey John,

Congrats. I had put this on my "watch" list, but was not real serious. I was hoping that there would be no bids and then relisted for less. Oh well, good luck and keep us informed on how it goes.

We used the 44 mm TVM's on Nick's 3.5 liter engine. They worked out quite well. You may want to give Nick a call. Nick is an Electromotive dealer so we used the Electomotive control on his 3.5 engine. I made up a cam trigger assembly which I believe Nick had duplicated. You will need this piece unless you can make your own.

You need to be careful when porting the stock manifold. It is very thin and will break through if you attempt to go too large with the porting. Note the spacers in the attached photo. I made these out of 3/4" lexan to taper the larger bore of the throttle body to the reworked manifold. The spacers were also needed to gain clearance for the throttle linkage.

wow Steve, that looks incredible, and good idea on the spacers to taper the bore offset, i have a good machinist who can fabricate these no problemo. I thought you guys were runing these throttle bodies, i will most likely contact nick for some advise on how to integrate my electromotive into the picture. i have not heard from the seller on shipping charges yet to get these babies into my hands........

Steve, this did you mess with or think of messing with a custom intake at all? It seems like since these are TBs and don’t need to sit flat, taking out as much or the 45 degree bend at the top of the intake could only help.

I plan on making or getting a manifold made for the 4 liter with straighter runners. The 4 liter will have a plenum style with air door. Still trying to find a set of heads at a reasonable price for that motor.

The TWM throttle linkage is supposed to be designed to work with the stock manifolds. It wouldn't clear without the spacers. If you look at the fuel rails, it would not be possible to make a straight runner and get the fuel rails to clear each other much less getting the air horns to clear each other with the runner length I wanted to run.

The engine made really good torque and power with this less than ideal manifold setup. I think the plenum style would work better and allow the runners to be at the proper angle to get them aligned with the ports as you and I would like. The individual throttle bodies had the look that Nick wanted for his engine.

As I am sure most know this, but for completeness' sake, the twm manifolds and linkage replace and work ONLY with 2v manifolds. The qv arrangement is totally different in coolant plumbing and will not support the stock or twm linkage. The 2v has an integral bellcrank in the crosspipe that does nor exist in the qv - and the qv has a water plumbing system separate from the manifold while in the 2v it is integral to it.

Since Steve is building his own manifolds, I am sure he will make provision for a bellcrank swivel if he will be using the twm linkage. In my conversion to carbs, I opted not to use the bellcrank system (no room on a qv) and go with a different option as shown in the previous threads.

I am re-fabricateing mine to a bit simpler and more reliable system myself this summer, so I'm tuned into these issues.

    Hope this helps

I plan to use my stock carby intake manifolds, and hopefully utilize the bellcrank gizmo for the throttle linkage so i am not stressing the linkage on the throttle bodies too much. I wont be starting any of this until the winter as i dont want any downtime on the ol 308 this summer. The throttle bodies were shipped to me, and i they should arrive sometime in july - no hurries. Any one have a good source for genuine intake manifold gaskets? mine need replacing anyway. happy motoring!
