    Boeing still actively uses one as a chase plane in their flight test programs.

    It's a fun plane. I flew (in) one as a Cadet at the Academy in the early '80s before they went away. Was very cool. One with the 'Birds paint used to be at Williams Gateway in Phoenix for a few years.

    I saw the first P-80 flying at Langley Field in 1945. It looked like the ultimate fighter at the time but it took most of the long runway to get airborne. That place was the best air show ever! B-17, B-24, B25, B-29, P-38, P-39, P-40, P-51, P-47, P-59, P-63, P-80, and a lot of weird stuff in between. From overseas. Zero, Me-109, FW-190,etc.

    Even plain ol' cameras were scarce back then until we were near the end of the war. Then a few popped up. I wish that I could have taken some pictures then. I forgot to mention the Spitfires, Mosquito, F-7 and F-8 that were also flying then.

    It is a great jet! I have over 800 hours with most of that time in Alaska. It was my first AF assignment and it got me to Alaska where I had wanted to go for a good part of my (at that time) young life. That was in the mid 80s and I'm still here. As far as cost goes it holds 813 gallons and we would use most of it up in a 1.8 hour sortie, although you might get a 2.5 out of it if you stayed at a high altitude.
