.. I think I need a valve adjustment - getting a little tick on my Mondial - does anyone know what these go for, and where is there a reputable shop in the Detroit area? I'm not terribly concerned, but would like to get it done sooner rather than later. I don't want to take it to the dealer.

    Thanks!!

I just went through the little tick thing and it was a leak in my exhaust manifold (86' 328). The symptoms I had was ticking on idle after warm-up and accelerated ticking when pushing the throttle. I also had the occasional backfire. Hopefully that is not the case for you. Good luck!

My mondial is doing it too but its actually my a/c compressor going bad. The clutch is sticking and causing a ticking noise. Its usually goes away after I drive a bit. BTW, does anyone know the bosch part number to replace the a/c compressor?

Can you confirm where the noise is coming from? Try using a big screwdriver and putting it on the valve covers and put to ear and listen....

Hmm.. perhaps the exhaust leak is the most likely candidate. It's not my A/C belt, it's not connected. Hmm.. Hmmmmmmmm..

Check the air rails for the emision system for pin hole leaks. Mine sounded like valves but I had a small hole rotted through the air rail pipe. I temporarily patched it with a srip of aluminum and a small hose clamp.
