Friendly message from a doc -

we have a bumper crop of ticks this year! I've pulled 4 off my kids already, wife had one on her leg.
You really don't want any tick-borne illnesses, of which Lyme is one (there are more).
My kids have gotten them just playing in the yard, not marching thru the forest preserve.

Your chances of getting a disease from a tick that has been implanted for less than 72 hours is very very small.

    So, remember your "tick checks"!

Anyone with dogs should watch them too.
Pulled 2 ticks yesterday from one of my Yorkies (he loves hunting for mice and chipmunks)

Wasn't it last year where some robust guy (firefighter?) went for a walk in a forest in WI and a few days later he was dead, done in by a tick bite? Super rare case?

My daughter pulled on be off her boyfriend's scalp yesterday. He had removed 2 from his dog the day before.

I remove at least one from myself everyday. I have two dogs and lots of greenery around. Nasty little things.

For your yard... If you have a standard 20 gallon, hose-end garden sprayer, you can make up a SAFE special brew, that kills many insects and repels more.

Buy a couple of packs of the cheapest rolling tobacco you can find and use it to make a gallon of strong "sun tea."

Buy Lemon scented ammonia and Lemon scented dish-washing detergent.

Fill the sprayer about 3/4 full with the "tea" and add an ounce or more of the ammonia and detergent. While reducing the bugs of all kinds, you fertilize and aerate your lawn.

    And Bob's your uncle.

    Never heard that...

I'd prefer to NOT take the chance, I've had one friend die and another now in a nursing home, because of Ticks.

    Regards,
    Bill

Oh Bill that's terrible. Sorry for the loss of your friends.

The dangers of ticks are not to be taken lightly.

    Thank, you for the thought.

    No they are not.

One thing that I neglected to mention, if you have dogs or cats in a Tick area, there was a product that seemed to work great, Paramite dip. They will smell BAD for 2-3 days, but it does kill and keep bugs away. I am sure there are other effective brands of dips, just do it people.
