Ron, Check this out in Florida...http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BB512i-BERLINETTA-BOXER-PRIVATE-COLLECTION-MUST-SEE-IT_W0QQitemZ200181767570QQihZ010QQcategoryZ157049QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Thanks Tony. I am still not mentally ready to ride in anything smaller than my A6. There are times I wake up at night and I am back in that car surrounded by flames. When I am ready, it might be the car in the photo below with a full roll cage and fuel bladder (or a road going NASCAR car): Image Unavailable, Please Login
I had the same impression...it looks kinda short doesnt it? ...other than that...way to go Ron! 288 evoluzione is one mean and exotic track day car!
Or is it the Jim Carpenter-built 288GTO Evo replica, by any chance ? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Great eye Paul. When Ferrari got all over JC for the GTO, the Evo and the P4's, he sold his businesss to a former NASA engineer. I met Butch on a trip to Phoenix, went to his house to pick up a spare grill for the Boxer. Butch was still building 288 GTO conversions, so I asked what happened to the Evo molds. They were in the warehouse, all 24 or 26 different pieces it takes to convert a 308/328. I think all that stays stock is the windshield as there is a mold for a new top and butress. These molds were built to run quite a few bodies, they cost JC a lot of money. Butch did not want to deal with Ferrari attorneys so he sold me the molds. The wheelbase is not changed (real Evo has about 4" longer wheelbase) but the cars use 348/355/360 engine/transaxles with surprising little intrusion into the passenger compartment. I had to sign a document that I would not call the parts official Ferrari parts nor would I call a completed car an official Ferrari 288 GTO Evoluzione. I have a meeting in Phoenix in February with the guy that actually used the molds to build and hang the bodies. I am either going that route or selling the molds if I do not get over my current discomfort of small cars. The car in the photo is in the states, the other three that were built are somewhere in Europe. I would love to own a real Evo, one of my favorite cars. This would look great on the streets of south Florida.
Thanks, Ron. Yeh - along with lots of other interesting stuff. I have my spies (call them 'The P4 Detectives') literally EVERYWHERE. LOL ! Image Unavailable, Please Login
We'd call it a "Ferrare 299 Evo", which will go great with my genuine Ronex Daytona I bought in New York City.
When I was with my now ex-wife in NYC, she bought one of those fake Rolexes for fun. She had a realistic looking arm hanging out of her trunk on her Honda. She told everyone it was her ex, not me, the one before me, thank God. The most incredilbe part of this story, someone cut off the arm to steal the fake $10 Rolex. What is this world coming to??
