I was in NZ last week and happened by airport at Wanaka and they slotted me in for 20 min flight between backlog of students which was very cool of them since good weather had been in short supply there lately!

It was pretty cool with take-off speed a very modest 40/50 mph and cruising speed 85 mph.. landing was on grass and stopping was a matter of judging when to cut the throttle when approaching gentle ramp at the hangar door since no brakes!

Also GPS log of flight and drive to/from Queenstown: http://g.co/maps/4tksh

Just thought I'd share some pics from the other side of the Pacific!

Both scenery and airplane are beautiful. Love that wonderfully nautical compass. Thanks for sharing.

A classic pilot report on the Tigermoth.

"The Moth is in absolutely no hurry. It doesn't feel a need to suddenly duck a wing at your command or go punching through thermals or shears. It just wafts along enjoying the scenery and the currents of air, going more or less where they take it, so long as the general direction agrees with the wishes of the pilot. The hand at the stick may suggest the direction but the airplane decides the exact flight path."

It reminded me of my first bike, a raw and just road-legal Ducati.. very pure and elemental.. the minimal amount of machinery and fluids to make it happen but still be fun.

I think the only closer way to feeling as though we could be just wafting along in the wind would have to be in a wicker basket strung under a balloon!

I loved it and the weather was beyond perfect for such an opportunity!

My first Tiger flight was in this gem - many years ago!
    They did untie the ropes.
