Well, not exactly right now. I need help planning my family's February 2007 vacation! I'm currently thinking Caribbean: does anyone have any recommendatins of specific islands with private beaches, secluded areas, nature trails, as well as good shopping (gotta please the stepmom) and restaurants? Any good resorts that anyone has stayed at? We'll be traveling with 2 adults, me (16) and my 1 year old brother. Price range is under 400 a night, staying for around 5 days probably. Any help would be appreciated guys!
are you guys interested in cruises? i've been on two carribean cruises, and to me this is the way to travel
which islands did you visit and like on your cruises? those are the ones you should explore first. IMO probaly the best bet would be puerto rico. it's the U.S. so no money exchange problems. traveling around the island is easy, well marked highways with familiar signs. great diversity on the island. incredible beaches, great mountain views. the cities are lively. check out the pardaors. they are state owned inns around the country.
i would reccomend grand cayman, or any of the cayman islands. awesome shopping, crystal clear ocean, great culture! my fondest memory is swimming with the stingrays, but be careful if you do that now, mate!
You can't beat the British Virgin Islands IMHO...if you want seclusion, try Jost van Dyke...if you want a little more to do like tour the Baths, Savannah Beach and the Bitter End, try Little Dix Bay...www.littledixbay.com on Virgin Gorda...http://www.b-v-i.com/VirginGorda/default.htm ...we a;ways stay in a villa when we go to Virgin Gorda....we rented Adagio the last time we went...http://www.caribbeanway.com/villa-page/ind/105456.asp ...you can take a short ferry ride (less than 30 minutes) from any island in the BVIs to Tortolla, St. John or St. Thomas for shopping. If you insist on staying on a island with a lot of shopping without taking a ferry, try Long Bay on Tortolla... http://www.b-v-i.com/NorthCoast/default.htm#Long%20Bay ...Antigua and Barbuda are nice beach islands too, although the culture is not as rich as in the BVIs...http://www.antigua-barbuda.org/ Now, if you want the room and board of a cruise, the beauty of the BVIs and the adventure of a lifetime, try http://www.windjammer.com/fleet_mandalay_destination.html ...we have been on 7 Windjammers thus far and love them.
I spent some time in Turks and Caicos (east of Cuba) last year for a Mid winter conference at the Beaches resort. It was rather nice and kid friendly to boot, I even remember them having a nanny service. Beaches is run by the Sandals resort company so everything is included. Trip was paid for by the company, so I am not 100% sure of the rates but it may be worth checking out.
