Hi Guys...have been away for awhile but my cargo ship has finally come in and I want to spend, spend, spend! Before, I was wanting a 6.0 Diablo or a new Murci (no roadster). Have pretty much given up on the Diablo...too rare to find what I want.

During this time, The Mercedes Benz SL65 AMB and the SLR Mclaren have come into view. While I am NOT comparing the Lambo to any other car, I am very taken by the SLR. More of a daily driver with better ground clearance.

As to comparing the $250-$300 Murci and the $502k (average selling price in USA), I really can't justify that extra cost, but don't really need to. I know many of you on here own or have owned many of the high end cars. Also, I know the decision is only mine to make. But, your input in the past has been great and I really would like some comments...pro, con, or whatever you want to say.

Thanks in advance for you comments.

but I am not much for RED. I did look at that candy apple type of red on a 2005. my favorite murci color ended in 2003 (pic) and my favorite diablo 6.0 seems impossible to find (pic). Thanks for your response. I had lots of feedback from you when I first joined this site and had lots of lambo questions. Now...buying both is always a solution, but don't know if I want that much in high end cars. Not a collector, so will have to see.

If I was looking for a daily driver type car, I would skip on the SLR. Too expensive, too many idiots out there and it attracts too much attention. I would tone it down to a new Flying Spur. It's under $200K, and a nice car.

I personally would spread the wealth around. For the price of a SLR, you could buy a brand new Flying Spur (or Continental) and a VERY NICE used Murcielago or 6.0, and still have money left over to spend on strippers.

I'd rather have two for less than one.

Don't give up on a Diablo 6.0. Many experts here (including some dealers in the know) see the values rising while owning a totally awsome fast exotic!!
210 MPH top end and a sub 4 second car to 60 MPH!!

LOL. I'd rather have two cars for the price of one. A Flying Spur is a Bentley. It's a 4 door. The 2 door version is the Continental GT.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PERFECT-CONDITION-LIKE-NEW-2006-BENTLEY-FLYING-SPUR_W0QQitemZ4627228402QQcategoryZ6118QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

From what I have read from the SL65 guys is that it's just as good as the SLR minus as few details and the doors don't go up.

Isn't the SLR a bit of a pig? I know its got the numbers, but it is a big heavy car. (Not that the 12 cyl. Lambos are flyweights, either). For less, you could have a Carrera GT, which, to me, is much more of a driver's machine than any of the cars you mentioned. If it is a luxo car you are looking for, I guess the Benz might be more what you are looking for- I couldn't imagine using the C GT for anything close to a daily driver. But, frankly, if I were luxo car shopping, I'd probably take the suggestion to grab a decent Bentley and spend the rest of your budget on a true sportscar.

Yes, I was looking at new ones. The base price is about $450 and a few options take it to $465. However, according to Edmunds, the average "buy" price in the US is $502. The silver one in the pic is a 2006 with <30 miles on it and they are asking $444k. I'm sure I wouldn't pay the $502.

I am retired and have nothing to do but ride around (well, maybe a few other things). The SLR would not be my only car...lol. But, I don't care for garage queens and since the SLR doesn't have a heart or brain, I feel it is meant to be driven.

I don't know much about how it compares "technically" to the Carrera GT and Murci. I personally thinks the SLR is nicer looking and loaded with creature comforts. It is a heavy weight for sure...about 4,000 pounds (maybe less). The SL65 AMG with the V-12 is about 4,400. Doesn't a new Carrera GT cost close to the SLR???

Finally, it is true that the SL65 has about everything on it for $200k. The V-12 is a weight adder. The hp is 604 vs 617 on the SLR and the tq is over 700. Lots to think about.

So many cars and so little garage space. Thanks to all for your great feedback.

Go drive an SL65. You don't sound like a guy that needs an exotic and I have had the SL65 for a few months and it is a great daily driver. Its also an auto hardtop convert at the touch of a button which none of the above cars are at any price. More creature comforts, 604HP, 738tq and you should be able to negotiate 20k off sticker at least.

Jeff...I agree about the SL65...looks very nice and is a lot of car...power and luxury wise. Oh yeah...I still need the exotic, but as already pointed out here, that $450-$500 could buy TWO nice rides. The highest SL65 I was was about $205 MSRP.

Saw a nice Diablo 6.0 on a link someone above listed...a purple one. Interesting...I think an exotic could get away with that color. Now if I saw a "normal" car in that purple, I would immediately think "ricer".

Thanks for you comments on the SL65. I figured it would be a good daily drive (which for me is not going to a job, but just cruising).

Honestly, in person the proportions of the SLR appear phallic, with the venting to add the ribbed condom look. There just aren't that many people who can pull that off. Paris Hilton? She has an SLR, but is a parody of a person.

As has been mentioned here before, it was modeled after the car of the superheroes The Ambigiuously Gay Duo:

Mike - decisions, decisions, decisions. How tough life is! - :D

I'm sure you have a bunch of other cars, so the answer to your question is predicated on another: what do you want THIS car for? Fast thrills? Grand touring action? Chicks drooling over it?

The SLR and SL65 are powerful, powerful beasts, but they perform in style, wrapping the driver in leather and other nice accoutrements. By doing so, some argue that they have compromised on driver involvement and seat-of-your-pant thrills.

A car that doesn't compromise on either of these factors is the Carrera GT - an awesome, awesome performance machine, but on the other hand, I don't think you'd want to drive it as a daily driver. It's got daily comforts (minus a cupholder or two) but it's a harsh ride.

I'd file the Diablo and the Murcielago as an equal compromise between those two extremes. Good performance, but enough luxury to keep you - and your back - happy on those longer trips.

To summarize along the metrics I first noted:

    - Fast thrills: Carrera GT.
    - Grand Touring action: SLR or SL65.
    - Chicks drooling over it: The Murcielago or Diablo.

If it were me, and I had a "regular way" daily driver (which in your case is probably a Phantom - :D), I'd take the Carrera GT without question...and wouldn't get out of it from Friday to Sunday!

BTW, what is the color of the Blue Murci you posted. It's one of my favorites too! Is it the same color as the one below?

    Best.

yes, your blue is the same blue as in my pic. My understanding is that 2003 was the last model in that color. It is beautiful.

Now...I fully plan to check out the SL65 later this week and will try to locate a C GT to look, although I don't think there is one in this immediate area.

My twin turbo Viper GTS will take care of the "fast" thrills. I want something with drop dead looks, class, and all around fun. I understand the lambos scrape on things on a daily basis. Contacted Roy at Cat's Exotics and he has a Diablo 6.0 I'm interested...in VIOLA...a ricer color for sure on any "normal" car.

So, I will have a busy week or two checking these out. I've never liked the Porsche (sp) but would like to take a close look at the C GT. I may have to travel some to locate one to look at. But, with the GT, am I not getting back up near the SLR price? I thought they were well over $400k.

Guess my Hummer would be the closest thing to a normal, daily car...walmart, lowes, food, trips to the bank.

Will keep ya'll posted. You guys are the greatest...had many responses many months ago when I was first looking into Lambos. Thanks again...

Yeah, I started to say, there's a CGT in Charlotte. Mike, whatever you get (I'm crossing my fingers for a Lambo), be sure to post many pics! If you get it before May, maybe you would like to come to the charity event in Columbia on May 6. Check out the Regional section for details. It will be fun!

There are currently 78 CGT's available for sale nationwide. Cars still on MSO can be had for just a tick north of $400K. I've seen lightly used '05's being asked at $380K.
