hi gang, i have been lurking for two years now and i'm ready to take the fcar plunge. i just moved into westport, ct via manhattan. i finally have a garage and i aspire to wrench my own fcar. i purchased a 2002 m3 for a daily driver and i'm now in the market for an 84-85 308 qv or 348 spyder. i have not driven either. i have had an 86 911 turbo, 87 lotus esprit turbo, 68 firebird 400 convertible and a 69 gto convertible in the past. i'm turning 40 this year and i'm ready for my mid life crisis car. i have read every 308 and 348 thread from the past two years and i'm torn between the two. i have been following the ct gathering thread and i have enjoyed them very much especially the pictures. i hope to be a fcar owner soon and i endeavor to contribute in a meaningful way in the future. please feel free to email me if anyone has any leads on the above two cars. i'm looking for one well sorted. i'm flexible on the location of the car but prefer something on the eastern timezone. finally i'm looking for a red tan combo for my first ferrari as i have only had black cars. i have had some experience with lamborghini's but other then a short ride in a 360 spyder, i have very limited experience with ferrari's. thank you in advance to everyone on this board for your contributions as it's given me confidence in pursuing a ferrari purchase. chung lee www.chunglee.com
Welcome and hello. With respect to your search, without a doubt, you must call Richard at: http://competizionecars.com/ Trust me, he and Fernando are well known and respected. Congratulations on the move to Westport, I am a former Westporter, but we still own and rent our Westport home. We might be moving back in the near future.
thank you for the heads up. they are on my radar as well as forza. i prefer to purchase from an enthusiast to not have to go through a middle man. my family is in love with westport. we live by the beach and the move has been a no brainer for us. the fish and chips store behind westfair liquors is insane. the best fried seafood i have ever had anywhere!!! been getting my wings at the milford hooters but i just discovered the black duck and their wings are insane. perfect sauce for my taste. hot and viningery (sp?) cl
I understand, but if you are buying a used ferrari, you need to talk to somebody in the ferrari community, otherwise, you are taking a huge and unwise risk. All I suggest is that you call and talk to Richard for information, you need not purchase a car from them. Trust me, they are 2 of the best and trusted guys in the ferrari community and many can vouch for them here on fchat. They can provide you information to help you with the search (probably recommend a local ferrari contact) and it will costs you nothing and they enjoy doing it. It is a very different experience than what you are used to if you have not purchased a ferrari/lambo in the past. Just read some of the threads on purchasing a ferrari and you will see that depending on what your looking for, you may end up spending alot more than you think, unnecessarily. Wesport is a great place to live and if you like diners, Sherwood Diner is the best. We used to go there every week, even when we had visitors, the food is always great and reasonably priced. Is Viva Zapatas still there?
If your going to Milford for your Wings may I suggest Archie Moores in the downtown by the harbor. Best in CT award winner for quite some time now. As for a beautiful 348, I know of a sweet one getting ready to go on the market. Its an SS model to sweeten the deal. Red and Tan like you ordered as well. Find yourself a nice Sunday morning and join us at the gathering. We are happy to show you the differances in Ferrari Models.
i'm in total agreement. when i'm zeroed in a car, they will be contacted. the one thing i miss about moving out of manhattan is the food. san fran is a distant second and new orleans is close to san fran. regarding new orleans, how can people there eat so much butter? it's like another food group. there is a converted ihop a mile down the post road we like for breakfast. the sherwood diner is always crowded. i don't know about zapatas but i will look for it. cl
archie moore sounds familiar. will look for it. thank you for the invite to the gathering and i look forward to meeting you and making new friends. cl
I would still call them, you know what, I will talk to Richard and see if he knows if one of those cars is available close to you. Why do you think Sherwood is always crowded? Exactly! Viva Zapatas is still there, it is at 530 riverside ave, just down the street from the Duck. Usually pretty crowded as well.
thank you for your help. it's much appreciated!!! i have eaten at sherwood and i concur. i just have an aversion to lines!!! lol i rather cook my own food then wait in a line. lol. there was a sushi joint on the post road and i was pleasantly surprised. their uni was fresh, which is my personal sushi lithmus test. heading into flushing, ny tomorrow for my food fix. we are going to a well known korean restaurant called kum gan san, they have a manhattan franchise on 32nd and broadway i went to all the time. the one in flushing is better. their spicy seafood stew is in a class of its own. cl
Your killing me. We lived in Forest Hills Gardens prior to moving to Westport and one of my wife's best friends was Korean. We would go to flushing for Korean food and man was it fantastic!
lol. just to enhance your nostalgia even more, we will be ordering korean bbq. mmmmmmm!!!! cl ps, i will take pics if you like.
Thanks, but no pics please! Hey, if you are into Ferrari, there is a Ferrari special on Speed Channel tonight at 12am about Ferrari racing.
thanks for the headsup. i will watch it. i'm into ferrari and the marquee the way a teen ager had a 308 poster in the 80's. man, i'm just drooling thinking of tomorrow. for those who've never had korean food. treat yourself and order the korean bbq, you will not regret it. cl
Please tell us you are not a closet Tom Selleck fan! If my memory serves me correctly, we had, Farrah, Testarossa, and the Countach on the walls.
Welcome to Ferrarichat Chung, certainly we'd be happy to help out a local choose a car. Of course I'll have to suggest the 355, since it's the best model Ferrari ever built and is sure to quadruple in value. Only once Ferrari made the mistake of moving away from round tail lights, but they fixed that with the 355 As you've probably seen there's some good natured teasing among owners of different models...but in the end any car with a prancing horse on it is great! (note: not a galloping horse) Speaking of Korean food, I had Korean bbq a few weeks back outside of Busan. Always an experience, and I can even handle the kimchi, the spicier the better...dunked in hot bean paste!
So are we on for the gathering today? I just checked the weather report and it is not suppose to rain until 1:00 or so. I'll be there early as usual if we decide to do it, but I can only stay until 9:30 or so. --Mike
tom selleck for president!!! well at least mayor lol. i had a 308, farrah and white countach poster. cl
uconn, i have followed your posts on the other sections of the forum. the 355 is beautiful but i think i will have to stick my toe in the fcar pond with another model first i'm already quaking in my boots. i have woken up in cold sweats from a broken timing belt, bent valve nightmare and i don't even have a fcar yet wwwoowwweee... you did the spicy korean trifecta!!! cl
Hi and welcome. I feel a little strange welcoming you as I am such a newbie myself. I got my first Ferrari about 6 weeks ago and have started going to the Sunday morning gatherings. There is a nice thread on it with pics, you probably have already seen it. From what I understand, the clan meets year round, most in their daily drivers - although, as I learned today, it is possible to see a Testarossa in January providing there is at least some clear blacktop between snowdrifts. For me it a great drive out there with a mix of highway and twisty back roads
Or just get a smaller garage?? Just noticed you had a '68 Firebird...very nice, I've got a '69 conv. As for Ferrari's, 308 is the best value and has the least risk of expensive repairs. The 348 has a single timing belt, so if it breaks you're looking at potentially both sides of the motor getting whacked (355 has 2 separate belts). All models have their weak spots and fortunately known fixes...348 has a weak gearbox, 355 will fail OEM headers. Either way it's good to plan on having a solid $5-10k available for repairs if needed. I've probably spent $5k over 3 years, but that includes new aftermarket headers that are good for life Keep on researching!
thanks gang for the warm greeting. just to close the loop on the korean food, i forgot my jeep commander (family car) was in the shop and i didn't want to take the kids for a ride to queens in an m3. didn't want them to shatter their teeth. so i didn't make it out for korean food so i decided to finish my basement. painting then putting down black hardwood floors or actually laminate floors. can't keep dipping into the car fund or i will end up with a moped cl uconn, the firebird hurt me the most, i spent about 8 months doing a body motor restoration and on my maiden voyage i rear ended an suv after my breaks went. the shop didn't realize the 400 used a different master cylinder. first time i ever cried over a car. no one was hurt and my insurance took care of everything but i just didn't have the heart to do another restoration on that car. that car was bad ass before i started the restoration and was amazing when it was done. just wasn't meant to be. purchased a gto with the insurance money and my heart was never into it and that car sat for years because i moved to manhattan shortly after purchase. Funny, for the last two years I thought I felt someone lurking on here. Welcome to Fchat and glad to hear that you've decided to take the Fcar plunge !!! As you've already found out Fchat is a great resource for information. Hope to see you soon at the Sunday morning G'Bury gathering. And, of course, you are welcome to come to the gathering at Autumn View Farm on Sept. 13 (daily drivers welcome). Event is open to all car enthusiasts. See separate thread. The good folks on the CT gathering thread are arranging a caravan which you are invited to join. Again, welcome aboard and enjoy the ride !!! - Ed -
