OK New Englanders, this section has been too quiet recently. I'm going to propose a spring Fdrive. A couple years ago, we organized a posse to drive up to Steve's Octoberfest in NH and we had about 6-7 Fcars all barreling down the back roads. That was fun! (And boy did we get a lot of jaws dropping). I would like to propose that we organize an event where we all meet someplace, then drive someplace else. My idea would be to meet at someone's house, hang out for a while, have some snacks, look at engines, you know, all the Fgeek behavior. Then we drive someplace for lunch. The drive would hopefully involve mostly nice back roads and the lunch would involve someplace nice where we could gaze upon our parked cars while we eat. Then we can drive back as a posse again, with people splitting off to head home. What do you think? Birdman (Sheesh...now I have to decide which Fcar to bring!!)
Would Z cars be welcome on this drive, too? My twin turbo has been languishing in the garage, unable to even get down my poorly plowed driveway... -Gio P
We could or should go by FIS in easton I was in there a few weeks and it is cool some nice cars and some back roads not to far away DAVID
Birdman, Would love to though the 308 is in deep storage as the winter here is LONG Am sure you guys in the lower altitudes will have fun, so perhaps in May afterwards is best for me Damn i miss driving
I'm in - of course depending on me not being on some random business trip. LA this weekend (there are worse places to have to go!). As a related aside, an hour long CS ride in my car - note Ride, not Drive is up for auction this weekend (Sat night) at the Silent Auction at the Unitarian Church in Marblehead, so its coming out of hibernation. I'm sure I can forward bids to my wife (who organised the auction) if any one here wants to make one. Feel free to PM me a "max" and my wife will bid for you up to that amount... Dan
How much longer until the salt and sand is banished from the roads? As I was driving home last night, on the pike, I passed a Porsche 911, that was traveling in the middle lane at about 75 MPH, and saw a fly yellow 328 going east. I immediatly caled my wife and told her that spring is here. Most people get excited when they see the first robin. I get excited when I see my first F-car. - Ron
It's still a bit premature to break out the beasts up here in Maine. Salt and sand aside, it's the frost heaves I'm worried about. Here's my driveway in better days as compared to its condition three days ago...although hope, and spring are in the air as about a foot has melted away since monday! I agree that we are not quite ready yet for the drive....I was thinking that we attempt to plan a route, then once we get that all settled, we plan a date. By the time we get the route figured out, it will be April. Then we plan a date for May, and we're all set. Gotta get rid of the salt first! So, start throwin' out some ideas. Zan, it can't be an Lcar drive, because, well, you would be the only one there! So an Icar drive then. Birdman
May? Have started driving my Spyder this week and find the roads of the North Shore in pretty good shape, No salt and very little sand. After bouncing around the last few months in my 4runner I find the stiff ride of my Spyder a nice change. While we do have some uneven and bumpy roads it seems Maserati definitely fixed the cowl shake problems in this car.
Lotus Fun Run 4/17/05 - Let me know if your interested. http://nelli.org/forum/posting.php?mode=reply&t=54
Birdman- If you are looking for a NH drive, how about a drive around lake Winnipesaukee? I would love to see your 308, looks like a very nice car.
Jim, Out of towners welcome! If you are willing to drive your 308 from NJ, you are just our kinda guy! NH Rossa, Winnepesake seems like it might be too long of a drive before we get to the fun roads. I was thinking something a little closer to MA/RI/southern NH or southern ME. But then again, I'm up for it if others are. I mean, a run up to the white mountains is great, but possibly a bit much for one day. I'm waiting for someone to jump up and say "I know a great stretch of windy road that hasn't got too many cops or potholes in [place town name here]." And we take it from there. C'mon people! Doody? Dan? Steven? Zan? Dennis? You guys must have some good road ideas! Birdman
Alas, not many great roads near my new place and the ONE really awesome road has police all over it like white on rice! My old place had some 'hidden' treasures and i have not found where the really good roads are around here yet. In fact it seems my car will not be back home until mid April PS: i just KNOW there MUST BE some good back roads here, yet have not found them yet. Give me time
Hey Guys.... add me to your list of guys up for a good drive. Let me know when, where, etc... The North Shore of Boston has some great routes around Hamilton, Essex, Ipswich, Gloucester, etc... May is better for me (except Tutto Italiano weekend of 21/22 May) April I will be in Maranello getting my factory tour ... If not, maybe we can do multiple weekend drives during the season? No reason to limit it to just once.. what do you guys think?
Thanks, but it's not exactly original.... The Myopia Polo event held in September does this general area.... Dennis usually heads this up and the eating destination is Woodman's in Essex. I often take drives to Hamilton, Ipswich, Newburyport and back through Essex via Beverly Farms. It's a great trip with windy roads.... travelling at high speeds through these areas are not recommended, but then that's what they have Lime Rock for, right? Just a peaceful drive is great! There are lots of places to stop off to eat (Essex has a few good places, as does Newburyport or Manchester) Where are you in MA? For some reason I think Andover, but I could be wrong. Any fun driving areas near you?
Did route 127 over the weekend from Beverly to Rockport, Not great for high speed driving but is very scenic with the ocean views and some good twisties.
I agree, Scott.... the whole area is really not a place for speed... Where are you in the area? Salem here! If everyone agrees that speed is not an issue, then the North Shore is a great place to have a good drive. Once the trees come in bloom, the area is exceptional.
Live in Swampscott and when I don't have the time to make a highway drive I enjoy just cruising around Marblehead neck and Nahant. You can't beat it for scenery and this time of year is best without all the beach traffic. We should try and plan a big car get together at the Willows this spring or summer. Can remember when I was in H.S there use to be some good ones there.
