It is time to put 328 away for the winter, as the snow is starting to fly a bit early. I was thinking of putting in some fuel stabilizer like Sta-Bil. I was planning to put some in, run it the shop for 15 minutes and put it to bed. But started to think about the dual tanks and all, and wondered if there was a better way? It has about 8 gallons of ethanol free fuel. Any advice is appreciated.

That should be fine, maybe start the car once a month while its put away ? Make sure you disconnect the battery, or use a tender . ( there is a plug that un clips under the bonnet drivers side , disconnects the battery in 1 seconds time )

It will be fine if the petrol is Ethanol free. As Big G said a C-tek charger on the battery would also be a good idea

    My standard autumn drill:

Buy a bottle of Sta-Bil, the one which says that it's good for 20 to 25 gallons. Drive the cars around for "one last drive", with the goal being to burn off as much as the existing old fuel in the tank(s) as reasonably possible - at least down to the 1/4 full range. Stop at a reputable gas station which is roughly 5 to 10 miles from home. Dump the entire bottle of Sta-Bil into the tank first. Then fill to the very top with the highest grade of gasoline available. Drive the 5 to 10 miles home, and call it a day.

By putting in more Sta-Bil than might be needed into the first tank, and then filling this first tank with fuel (which obviously makes its way across to the far tank), and finally 'sloshing' it all around by driving home (ideally, you would have found a route with some curves), I feel quite confident that there's more than enough of the Sta-Bil mixed well in the entire tank.

Been doing this above sequence for at least 40 years, and have -never- had any spring time "surprises" whatsoever.

Cheers - DM ( ... who is also a long time Fiat fan)

Don’t start it for a little bit every month during the winter. That can attract moisture and doesn’t get enough heat and run time to burn it off. Just fill the tank with fuel with stabilizer, put it on a battery tender, and cover it up for the winter.

I add StaBil to normal (ethanol) gas when adding fuel prior to storage - then drive it around 10 miles or thereabouts. I don't use a charger. I disconnect the negative quick-disconnect. I have left the car that way for as long as 7 months and when reconnecting the batt, it starts/runs as if it had been running yesterday.

Thanks for the feedback. Not sure I want to go for another drive, since there is snow and gravel on the ground now.
But will get some Sta-Bil in it and get it hooked up to battery charger. Getting my list of little projects to do during the winter and spring........
Winter came earlier than I expected,,,,, but I got all my services done before the weather moved in ;-)

AV gas does not have any ethanol in it, maybe throw in a few gallons, Im using it in my carbed motorcycles, when Im not riding them. Im in So Cal, so I dont have to worry about my 328, thankfully. My vintage motorcycle repair shop owner got me a 5 gallon can of it to use.

Thank God we don't get snow here. My winter ritual is pulling the heater levers open on it when I'm driving it.

Make sure the AV gas is not leaded. I think most of them are. Your catalytic converter would not be happy.

AV Gas is leaded for now. An unleaded version has been approved by FAA but I haven't seen it at any of the airports I fly to. AV Gas is stable for years.
I found it takes a while (years) to poison O2 sensors. Cat converters may be another story. I have run straight AVGas for decades (turbo likes it).

Change the oil. Fill it full of ethanol free fuel. Add Sta-Bill or similar (ie - Techron). Check battery level if possible, top off as needed and place on a (CTEK or similar) battery maintainer. Overfill tires. Dryer sheets or similar if rodents are a concern. Clean and cover, then let it sit...

DO NOT start periodically. Condensed oisture and hydrocarbon byproducts can mix and become acidic....which etches metal components. You can't idle it long enough to evaporate the moisture. Hold the pedal to the floor and crank for a bit to circulate oil before starting in the spring. Kinder, gentler choice!
