Well, I am selling my 458 today, with much trepidation. It is a beautiful beast, and my first Ferrari that I ordered from spec from the factory, but the truth is, I don't drive it much. I used to take it on Saturday drives and evening dinners with the wife, but now my Saturday drives are taking my kids to hockey practice, and my dinners are more than likely kids birthday parties. It has now become a big pile of cash sitting in my garage depreciating every month, and I got an offer I couldn't refuse.

My mistake was getting a 991.2 Porsche Targa as a daily driver. It is a manual with sports exhaust, and fun to drive. I take it to hockey practice, drive it to work, the mall etc, and don't worry about where I park, door dings, steep driveways etc, and it doesn't get as much attention (positive or negative). It is a fun sports car, but nowhere as magnificent as the Ferrari.

I hope my Italia finds a good home, and I am sad to see it go. Farewell and may I have another Ferrari in the future one day (maybe when the kids are off to College).

    Goodbye :(

Sad to see her go but I understand your reasoning having kids myself as well. Stay here and maybe we will convince you to get another one later :)

You would be much happier just getting rid of the wife! Keep the 458

I thought about that! Too expensive, I would probably end up driving a used Hyundai.

Her new boy friend would be driving the Ferrari. Having done that it makes Ferraris look cheap.

It's in the end just a car. You can always get another one. 911's make great daily drivers.

The good news is you also come out the other side of this too after a few years... my kids (boys) are 12 & 16 and I just got my first Ferrari and they love it... one is car crazy (can't think where he gets that from) and a hugely practical aspect of it is they can't argue in the car (except with me).

..I share your pain though letting go of it!

You so have to try an FF or the new Lusso - amazing DD :) I get the kids thing, reason I got the CaliT and FF/Lusso combo - can take them with us most of the time :). I really enjoyed the Targa but I just can't muster the MT in my daily downtown commute.

I felt the same way with mine but I knew it as going to be the best day ever for a new owner somewhere out there.

The truth is we really don't own these things. We are their caretakers for a while and then pass them on to someone else looking for the thrill of ownership

I think you will regret this decision..you'll always compare all driving experiences and car ownership to your Ferrari until you give in and buy another one...at more cost. :)

Nobody notices the Porsche for a reason.
Sometimes the best time with your Ferrari is alone...driving some back roads...worth every penny.

    +458.

I bet you're selling your beautiful 458 with a heavy heart. I can't imagine parting ways with mine, but if you set your sights on selling, I hope you get a nice deal and your 458 finds a new, worthy home.

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

Just sold my FF a month ago. Similar reasons as OP. Can't drive her to the mall, restaurants, no valets and also worry about where to park, how to park, too much of a showoff at sports practice, afraid of getting dings and scratches and sitting on a large pile of cash getting depreciated "fast!" The day I sold it I received my first Ferrari magazine.....Now, I am looking for a 458.

well said. I get the whole sitting in my garage depreciating and I don't use it as much. But I feel life is too short to not make sure we have what also makes us happy. I would have kept it and enjoyed any second I got to drive it, but that is me.

Thats no fun :/, I sold my FF and immediately put a deposit on the Lusso and there is an incoming CaliTHS. If your anything like me the minute it was gone the Ferrari drug withdrawal kicks in and you keep thinking about getting back into another one. I commend anyone that can walk away from a Ferrari V12 :) without something equivalent to fill the void.

The other issue is that there is a time to get rid of your Ferrari: before the buttons become sticky, the leather wears out and gets scuffed, the gearbox breaks down, you need to replace the headers, etc. (see 360 and F430). There's a sweet spot in the early depreciation curve (depending on the market). Mine was now. Also, I always wanted to order a Ferrari from the factory. That scratch has now been itched.

But let me tell you, seeing them drive off with my car to their trailer was a little painful, like breaking up with a girlfriend. Seriously, just as emotional for me, so slightly discomforting.

As hard as this decision was, you made the right call for this time in your life. I think you will always have a passion for Ferrari and I predict one day circumstances will allow you to come back.

PS congrats on the Targa, thats a cool car too!

I remember how mentally beat up you were when you traded your Italia, Every time I think of trading mine I just can't bring myself to drop it off. Maybe one day but not now. You traded yours for a Speciale for god's sake.

I'll Be interested to hear how you feel about the 458 if and when you get one, after coming from a V12. I am kind of contemplating V12 to V8 in a way myself

To the OP, all the best and hope to see you back in the fold soon

Right call for time in your life? Is there really a time in someone's life they shouldn't be enjoying something like a car he loves? I think that is what people tell themselves to accept their decision to get rid of something or not do something in that period in their lives. The reality is, you may not have tomorrow. So everyday is the right time, because tomorrow is never guaranteed.
